Last week we steered you away from Kyle Larson in the Round of 8 Playoff opener at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Why? Because Larson had struggled previously in the first races in both the Round of 16 and Round of 12.
Sure enough. Larson’s pit crew cost the driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet valuable positions on the track, and Larson could salvage only an 11-place finish.
If Larson continues the pattern he has established during the Playoffs, he won’t win at Homestead either. Instead, he’ll save his best efforts for the elimination race at Martinsville the following week.
Larson won the elimination races in each of the first two rounds.
We can’t recommend a bet on the favorite this week, not at +300 via bet365. In fact, we’re picking fellow rim-rider (and two-time Xfinity Series winner at Homestead) Tyler Reddick to beat Larson head-to-head at +140 at FanDuel.

You could almost say it was fated to happen. After getting a Playoff reprieve when Alex Bowman was disqualified for an underweight car at the Charlotte Roval, Joey Logano used the break to full advantage.
Crew chief Paul Wolfe orchestrated a fuel-mileage gamble at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and it paid off with a victory and a spot in the Championship 4 season finale for a record sixth time.
Happily, we picked Logano at +1400 last week for one of our strongest paydays of the year. This week, the driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford can race worry-free as his team concentrates on preparing for the Championship 4 race at Phoenix on Nov.10.
During practice, Logano may try some setup innovations to try to help teammate and reigning series champion Ryan Blaney advance to the season finale.
Hence, we don’t expect Logano to win on Sunday, but because he doesn’t have to concern himself with stage points, he has a wider range of strategies available.
We think Logano will have the speed to run in the top three (+800 bet365) or top five (+400 at bet365) and can see our way clear to make both bets.

In last Sunday’s South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Christopher Bell and his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team did everything right.
Bell won the pole for the first Round of 8 Playoff event. Crew chief Adam Stevens picked pit stall No. 6, the box the previous three Las Vegas winners had used.
Bell led 155 of the 267 laps, finished second in the first stage and won the second stage. Yet, because of Joey Logano’s fuel-mileage gamble, Bell trailed the race winner to the finish line by 0.662 seconds.
On Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, we like Bell to win at +600 via bet365. He enters the race with five straight finishes of seventh or better, including consecutive runner-up results at the Charlotte Roval and Las Vegas.
What’s more, the tire Goodyear is providing for the Homestead race is the same combination used at Darlington and Kansas, where Bell finished third and seventh, respectively, in the two most recent races at each track.
Bell also is the defending winner of this race.
