John Hunter Nemechek is getting lots of love on a double-duty weekend.
If you’re looking for a long shot, Parker Kligerman may be the answer.
Based on speed and experience, Justin Allgaier has an edge at Iowa.

After two road course races—both won by New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen, as we predicted—the NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to the 0.875-mile oval at Iowa Speedway, where van Gisbergen definitely will not be favored.
NASCAR hasn’t raced at Iowa since 2019, and in the interim, the bottom two lanes of the track have been repaved. Consequently, even those with considerable experience at the short track in Newton won’t be familiar with the new asphalt, which promises added grip and faster laps.
John Hunter Nemechek will make his eighth Xfinity Series start of the season in a double-duty role on Saturday, and he’s the oddsmakers’ pick to win the race (+300 via BetMGM).
It’s true that Nemechek has a 2017 NASCAR Truck Series victory to his credit at Iowa, but we don’t think his dalliance with an Xfinity ride will produce a similar result.
Nemechek finished third in his last Xfinity start at the track, and even though he’s in top-tier Joe Gibbs Racing equipment, we think he’ll do well to duplicate that performance.
Bet on J.H. Nemechek (+300) at BetMGM
Forget Parker Kligerman’s record at Iowa Speedway—with one exception.
Kligerman raced three times in the Xfinity Series at the 0.875-mile track in 2012 and 2013, with a best result of eighth driving for Team Penske in 2012.
The one race that should grab your attention, however, is Kligerman’s 2009 victory at Iowa in an ARCA Menards Series car fielded by Briggs Cunningham.
This year, Kligerman is running a full season in solid equipment for Big Machine Racing owner Scott Borchetta, the record company founder who helped launch Taylor Swift’s career.
Kligerman repeatedly punches above his weight in the Xfinity Series, and he’s a good candidate for a top-three finish at generous +1300 odds via BetMGM. We like him to run top-five at +600, too.
Bet on Parker Kligerman Top 3 (+1300) at BetMGM
Saturday’s Hy-Vee Perks 250 will mark Justin Allgaier’s 17th NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Iowa Speedway.
Only Jeremy Clements (19 starts) and Joey Gase (17) have more, and –trust us—neither of those drivers will be a factor in this race.
Allgaier, on the other hand, will be driving a JR Motorsports Chevrolet that has been fast everywhere this season, and he’ll be able to manage his equipment at a short track like Iowa, even with the new surface in the bottom lanes.
Frankly, Allgaier’s hard-luck results this season haven’t matched his potential, but he does have a win at quirky Darlington to show for his efforts.
We think a second victory will come on Saturday, at odds of +350 via betMGM.
Bet on Justin Allgaier (+350) at BetMGM
Race: Hy-Vee Perks 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race
