Credit One 300 Predictions

Sam Mayer Is the Defending Winner, and He Needs Another Playoff Miracle

In last year’s edition of this race, Sam Mayer eked out a victory by 0.227 seconds over runner-up Riley Herbst.

This year, he’ll probably need another win at 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway to stay alive in his quest for the NASCAR Xfinity Series title.

The driver of the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet already has one 11th-hour victory in the 2024 Playoffs. After NASCAR called a caution with Parker Kligerman approaching the finish line at the Charlotte Roval, Mayer used his second chance to win the race and advance to the Round of 8.

Seventh in the standings and 23 points below the current cut line for the Championship 4, Mayer brings a win-or-bust mentality to Saturday’s race.

We think Mayer will be a contender, but we don’t think he’ll win at +800 via bet365 Sportsbook. Hence, we’re looking elsewhere this week.

Facing Retirement, Parker Kligerman Still Has Something to Prove

As noted above, Parker Kligerman was a few feet from winning the Round of 12 elimination race at the Charlotte Roval.

Instead, he faded to sixth after losing the lead in overtime and remains winless in the NASCAR Xfinity Series after 119 starts.

That’s not to say that Kligerman doesn’t have the talent to win in NASCAR’s Triple-A series—he does.

And though we don’t expect him to celebrate in Victory Lane on Saturday, we expect a strong run at Homestead. Kligerman has three races left before he retires from full-time racing and we think he’ll make the most of them.

We’re recommending a bet on Kligerman to finish in the top three at +700 via bet365, and we expect Austin Hill to join him on the podium at +600 at bet365.

Kligerman has finished seventh in his last two Homestead starts, and Hill needs to improve one spot from his fourth-place result last year.

Defending Series Champ Cole Custer Loves to Ride the High Side

This is a case where we have to back the favorite, even though Cole Custer is priced conservatively at +350 via bet365.

The driver of the No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford is an absolute lightning bolt at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he excels at running at the top of the track next to the outside wall.

In five starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, Custer has scored two poles, a victory and two runner-up finishes. Custer and Sam Mayer are the only two previous Homestead winners entered in Saturday’s Credit One 300.

We think Custer will win on Saturday and become the second driver (along with Las Vegas winner AJ Allmendinger) to clinch a spot in the Championship 4.
