All eyes on Inter Miami.
Last Friday, the MLS club made headline news across the globe when it was announced that Argentine superstar Gonzalo Higuain had joined their club.
The former Juventus striker stated about his move:
First of all, I want to thank Inter Miami for the effort it has made to sign me, I think it will be a beautiful experience in my life. It’s what I was looking for — a new experience, a new league and a beautiful city. I’m really happy to be here and that it’s official. My goal is to try to transmit all the experience I acquired in Europe and to help the team grow.
The acquisition is undoubtedly a significant one for the team that already has superstars like Blaise Matuidi and Rodolfo Pizarro in their roster. Set to soon join his new teammates, Higuain will likely be content after seeing Miami’s latest result as well. Thanks to goals from Brek Shea and Juan Agudelo, Miami took charge in an impressive 2-1 away win over Atlanta United last Saturday.
With Higuain now a part of the setup, Miami should soon exit their current mid-table position in the Eastern Conference and become one of the elite squads in MLS.
The beginning of a very good week for Dallas. Carried by Harold Mosquera’s hat-trick, the Texan club dominated the Rapids with a 4-1 win. What would eventually follow for Dallas is a two-game week with a total of seven goals.
If only both teams knew what would follow. While San Jose rescued a point with a late goal in the 76th minute, the Timbers would later earn their revenge with a high-scoring 6-1 win just a few days later.
Led by Fredy Montero’s two goals, the Whitecaps clinched a crucial 3-1 win over their Canadian rivals, the Montreal Impact. The three points would later help their morale in their ensuing game against Real Salt Lake on the 19th.
Don’t overlook Seattle. Just eight days after turning heads with their 7-1 demolition of the San Jose Earthquakes, the Sounders responded with a statement-making 3-0 shutout of LAFC. The sky appears to be the limit for Seattle.
With Franco Jara leading the charge with his two goals last Saturday, Dallas secured their second win of the week after taking part in an electrifying 3-2 shootout against Sporting Kansas City.
Granted, this wasn’t the most exciting game of the week, but for New York, they are now undefeated in their last six matches. Not bad for a club that has only scored eight goals in nine games.
All you need to know about this game is the absolutely incredible Olimpico scored by Haris Medunjanin late into the 2nd half. Arguably one of the best goals in world soccer from last week.
Columbus are one of the top teams in MLS in 2020. Although Nashville gave them a bit of trouble, the Crew’s attacking persistence earned them their fifth win of the MLS season.
United should feel lucky to walk away with a draw here. Out-shot and out-possessed by Toronto, United eventually clawed their way back to a draw after Griffin Yow’s equalizer in the 88th minute.
It’s time to give Orlando the credit they deserve. Once a middling team that struggled to make the playoffs, Orlando are now beginning to dominate their Eastern Conference rivals.
What initially looked like an easy win for Minnesota quickly turned into a scrappy battle between the two Western Conference squads. Houston were impressive in their comeback that featured two goals in the 2nd half.
It might be time to take the Whitecaps more seriously. After their wins against the Impact and Real Salt Lake, Vancouver has now thrown themselves into the playoff conversation.
Even with recovering superstars like Javier Hernandez and Jonathan dos Santos entering the field in the 2nd half, the Galaxy struggled to create enough chances to overcome their early 2-0 deficit.
This was, by far, the most one-sided result of the week. The Earthquakes are now winless in their last eight matches and have yet to clinch a win in all competitions since July.
The Union are looking like the real deal. With three wins in a row, a place in the playoffs not only appears likely but also a deep run towards the MLS Cup.
It has become quite clear in recent weeks that you can’t rely on the San Jose Earthquakes. In their next away match against the Colorado Rapids, pick the home team.
