Columbus Crew have failed to score a single goal in their last four meetings against Philadelphia Union. They have lost three of those matches, including one earlier this season. Despite having 69 percent of the ball, 19 shots at goal, and eight corners, the Crew failed to create a single big chance against the Union.
On the other hand, Union had 10 shots, five of them on target, and three of them substantial goal scoring chances. Unfortunately, the game was decided by Eloy Room’s own goal in the 2nd minute.

The last time Columbus Crew defeated Philadelphia Union was back in 2020. Artur scored the opening goal of the game for the Crew before Jamiro Monteiro leveled things up in the 57th minute. Caleb Porter sent on Krisztian Nemeth in the 83rd minute to help them win the game and he scored the winner a minute later. The goal came against the run of play as the Union had three times more shots on goal and on target but failed to score from open play.
Philadelphia Union are unbeaten at home this season and that streak is expected to continue after this weekend. They have won four of the nine matches and picked up 17 points from those games so far. On the other hand, Crew have won just two of their nine matches away from home. However, they have also lost just twice and are unable to convert the draws into wins.

An unbeaten run in pre-season saw the Columbus Crew fans grow in confidence ahead of the MLS season. They defeated Charleston Battery 3-0 in the final pre-season friendly and the players were ready to start the season in a similar fashion.
They did precisely that by thrashing Vancouver Whitecaps in the opening weekend. They picked up a 4-0 victory over the Canadian side with Miguel Berry, Derrick Etienne Jr., Luis Diaz, and Lucas Zelarayan getting on the scoresheet for the home side.
They could not carry the momentum into the next match and drew 3-3 with San Jose Earthquakes in the next game. They continued their dominance over the Canadian sides by beating Toronto FC 2-1 in the next game week. However, that streak broke soon after and they drew another match away from home. Their visit to the Red Bull Arena ended in a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls.
The draw was followed by three consecutive losses in the league. They were beaten by Nashville FC, Philadelphia Union, and Orlando City. Their poor performance continued in the US Open Cup and they were knocked out by USL side Detroit City FC.
The loss to the USL side turned out to be a wake up call for the Crew players. They could not bounce back with a win but ended their losing streak with a goalless draw against Sporting Kansas City.
They defeated DC United in the next game week but once again failed to make it two wins in a row. They took the lead at New England but had to settle for a draw with Erik Hurtado scoring the equalizer for them in the 89th minute. The Defending champions defeated them 2-0 in the next game week. The current table toppers LAFC were up next for the Crew and they lost by the same scoreline.
In the last four matches, their form has picked up and they are unbeaten in those games. They have won twice and drawn as many times. They defeated Atlanta United away from home but were held by Charlotte FC and Real Salt Lake in the next two games.
They did well once again, against Toronto FC earlier this week and took a 2-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes. Crew sat back and defended for over an hour to ensure they left BMO field with all three points. Jesus Jimenez scored in the 54th minute to make it an exciting second half, but Crew did well to hang on to their lead.
Artur is ruled out.
Philadelphia Union had a very short pre-season with just three matches ahead of the MLS season. They defeated CF Montreal but were held to draws by FC Cincinnati and Nashville SC in the other two games. They kicked off their MLS campaign with a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC. They did not have to wait long for their first win of the season and defeated CF Montreal in the second gameweek.
The win kicked off their five-match winning streak and they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, New York City FC and Charlotte FC by the same scoreline: 2-0. Their winning streak continued with a 1-0 win over Columbus crew. But this stunning run came to a halt when they visited Toronto FC in gameweek 7. The Canadian side stunned them and handed the Union their first loss of the season.
The loss was followed by a five-match run where they could not pick up a single win. They were held by CF Montreal, Nashville SC, Los Angeles FC, New York Red Bulls, and Inter Miami CF. They finally managed to end their winless streak when they visited Portland Timbers. Daniel Gazdag scored in the 5th minute to hand the Union their lead and Sergio Santos doubled it in the 48th minute. Sebastian Blanco scored a goal for the Timbers in the 73rd minute, but it was ruled out by the VAR.
However, the win could not do much to their confidence and they were held in the next two games as well. New England Revolution and FC Cincinnati managed to take a point away from their clash with the Union, leaving Jim Curtin’s side struggling for points despite being the toughest side to beat.
They managed to get another win under their belt when they hosted the defending champions New York City FC. They edged out a 2-1 win but once again could not follow it up with another win.
Bottom place side Chicago Fire made the most out of Philadelphia Union’s poor form and handed them their second loss of the season. Federico Navarro scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half to help his side collect all three points. Things got worse for Philadelphia Union as Jose Martinez was sent off for a second bookable offense.
No player is ruled out, but Jose Martinez is suspended following his red card in the defeat to Chicago Fire during the week.
