This is our favorite bet of the week, as the run total for this one is set far too low. That is because both of these offenses have come alive recently, and we have two pitchers on the mound that can give up big run totals. We see the Mariners tagging Schmidt for many runs early and Kirby surrendering at least three to a red-hot Yankee offense. That makes this an easy cover, and we’re locking it in before the bookmakers realize it. See our favorite MLB betting sites to get the best betting experience and baseball promos.
The New York offense has been firing on all gears lately. While they had a mini-slump last week, they bounced back to put up ten runs in back-to-back games. A big reason for that is their power; they had 11 home runs over the last seven games. While they have not seen Kirby before, we love their chance to stay hot and tag the young pitcher for a few runs.
Aaron Judge is a big reason for the Yankees' offense's success. The reigning AL MVP has been on fire over his last few games and has raised his average back above the .300 mark. He had two home runs in their season opener against Seattle, and we see that hot streak continuing against a young Mariners pitcher tonight.
The Yankees will have Clarke Schmidt (2-5, 5.58 ERA) starting on the mound tonight. After a strong 2022 season in the Yankees bullpen, the 27-year-old has struggled in 2023 as a full-time member of the rotation. He’s been a bit sharper in May, with a 4.32 ERA, but he has lasted six innings just once. That is primarily thanks to Clarke’s inability to keep runners off the bases, as shown by his 1.60 WHIP. On top of that, he has a 7.27 ERA over his four road starts this season. The Mariners' bats have come alive, and they’ll be able to have another big night against Schmidt tonight.
The Mariners struggled for the season's first two months, but things have begun to turn around for this team. Their offense has been a big issue, despite having the talent to compete with the best in the AL. They have finally come alive over the last couple of weeks, resulting in the Mariners getting their record back over the .500 mark. They’ll have a great matchup tonight against Clarke Schmidt, which will lead to another impressive offensive performance.
While there are a lot of things that have improved for Seattle, none is more critical than Julio Rodriguez. The 22-year-old was an early favorite for the AL MVP, but that quickly disappeared after a brutal start to 2023. His average was hovering around the Mendoza line (.200), and his power was lacking. That has changed over the last week, as he has raised his average by over 40 points after posting multi-hit performances in eight of their previous nine games. That momentum will help him tonight as he faces a Yankee pitcher that struggles to miss bats.
George Kirby (5-4, 3.43 ERA) will get the start for the Mariners tonight. The 25-year-old has been good again this season, going deep into games and limiting runs. However, Kirby has a 4.76 ERA at home this season and a 4.11 ERA in night games. The young pitcher is also coming off his worst start of the season, allowing seven runs over 4 ⅔ innings to the Pirates. That includes four home runs that he allowed, which is an alarming trend heading into a matchup with one of the most powerful lineups in baseball.
