Marlins vs Mariners Predictions

Marlins vs Mariners Predictions

These teams will face (or fish) off tonight in the final game of their three-game series. This features one of the best pitching matchups of the day, with one of the game's most promising young starters facing off against one of the top arms in baseball. While the Marlins have been playing well, their wins have come against the A’s, Royals, and White Sox. Yes, the Marlins are improved, but we don’t see this offense doing much against Luis Castillo tonight. This may not be a high-scoring game, but the Mariners will do enough to win easily.

Miami Marlins Predictions

The Mariners are off to one of their best starts in recent memory, but their record doesn’t tell the whole story. Their last eight wins have come against Oakland, Kansas City, and Chicago (AL). They have had a much harder time against the league's more talented teams, and the Mariners are capable of playing as well as anyone.

While Miami is top ten in the league in batting average, they rank further down in runs, home runs, and on-base percentage. That may seem odd on paper, but it results from Luis Arraez’s incredible campaign. While he doesn’t hit for power, the second baseman has had his average hovering around .400 for some time now. He is the reason for their high team average, but their struggles in other offensive categories show that the rest of this lineup is far from elite.

The Marlins will have one of their top pitching prospects on the mound tonight in Eury Perez (3-1, 2.17 ERA). The 20-year-old has looked sharp in his rookie season and has allowed just one run over his last three starts (15 innings). However, five of his six starts have come against some of the league’s worst teams (White Sox, A’s, Rockies, Nationals, Reds). Ruiz also has struggled to get deep into games, never lasting more than five innings. While Seattle’s lineup has struggled, they still feature a lot of talented hitters. We see Ruiz getting in trouble early, leading to a Mariners multi-run win.

Seattle Mariners Predictions

While we are still in early June, Seattle’s playoff chances continue to dwindle. Their record has hovered around .500 all season, but they have not been able to string together many wins against talented teams. However, they will have a few factors working in their favor tonight.

The first is the play of some of their top hitters. Teoscar Hernandez has been leading the offense and has a .394 batting average so far in June. He has gotten on base in each game this month and already has eight RBIs and two home runs. The Mariners have also gotten better production from Julio Rodriguez, who was atrocious to begin 2023. Those two bats alone will be a problem for opposing starters, and it’s hard to imagine a 20-year-old rookie being up to the challenge of shutting them down.

The biggest reason we love this bet is that Luis Castillo (4-4, 2.70 ERA) will be on the mound for the Mariners tonight. The veteran has been incredible over his last four starts. All four appearances resulted in quality starts, as he allowed just four earned runs across those four games (25 innings). Castillo has been especially great at home, posting a 1.89 ERA over eight starts. Miami hasn’t seen much top-level pitching, and we think that will lead to a quiet night against Castillo.
