While Wade Miley is having a fantastic season for the Crew, he will face a familiar foe tonight. The Dodgers hammered him for seven runs on six hits back in May, and we see a similar performance happening tonight. Look for the Dodgers’ impressive lineup to jump on Miley early, leading to a lopsided win for LA.
The Brewers have been hot over the last two weeks, keeping the Cubs at bay in the NL Central. However, they are just 15-12 since the All-Star break. Milwaukee has relied on a scrappy offense and a bullpen that may be the best in the league. That has led to many low-scoring games, particularly against average teams. The problem is that they have struggled against great offenses. The Brewers lost five of their six games against the Braves over the last month, showing they are a step below the league’s top teams. We see them having a low-scoring game leading to an ugly loss.
Wade Miley (6-2, 2.90 ERA) will be on the mound for the Brewers tonight. The 36-year-old has been quietly having one of the best seasons of his long career. While he doesn’t dominate batters, he has been fantastic at generating weak contact. That works against teams like the Reds and Pirates, but it won’t against the Dodgers. LA’s stars have hit Miley hard in the past, and we see that trend continuing in this one.
Milwaukee’s offense has been coming alive over the last week. They scored seven or more runs in four of their six games last week, but that came against the Rockies and White Sox. The team owns a .198 average against Clayton Kershaw, who held them to one run over seven innings back in May. Expect to see the offense go cold once again tonight, leading to a quiet night for the Crew.
It took the Dodgers a while to get going, but they now own the second-best record in the league. They won eight straight games heading into this series and have allowed more than three runs in just one. The Dodgers took a series from the Brewers in Milwaukee in May, winning two games by a total of 11 runs. They have been dominant and will keep that streak going tonight against Milwaukee.
Clayton Kershaw (10-4, 2.51 ERA) will be starting for LA tonight, which is bad news for Milwaukee. The veteran is having another Cy Young-caliber season for the Dodgers, and he has not allowed more than two earned runs since May 27. Kershaw has had a lot of success against the Brewers, who own a combined .198 average against the star. He was fantastic against Milwaukee earlier this season, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings. Kershaw has struggled a bit on the road, but now he’ll be back at home, where he owns a 1.71 ERA. Expect him to shut down Milwaukee again tonight, leading to an easy win.
It's no secret that the Dodgers lineup is loaded, but there are a couple of players we are focusing on tonight. One is Mookie Betts, who is having one of his best seasons for LA. Betts has a .474 batting average against Miley in 19 at-bats. He had a .367 average in August and has failed to get a hit in just one game this month. The other player to watch is Freddie Freeman, who owns a .348 batting average in 23 at-bats against Miley. Freeman has been one of the league’s best hitters this season, and we think he and Betts will stay hot tonight.
