In a high stakes divisional matchup between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, expect early runs to be scored as both productive offenses get the opportunity to swing against a pair of struggling arms. Well before that takes place, we target the contest between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates as Aaron Civale continues to underperform on the mound.

With four games remaining in the regular season, the San Diego Padres are still in contention for the NL West division title. Winning the division at the last second would greatly bolster the Padres chances of making a run to the World Series as they would also secure one of the two byes for the first round of the playoffs. As for the loser, they will be forced to play in the wildcard round in a high variance best of three series.
Should the Padres want to close the gap between them and the Dodgers in the division standings, then their offense must continue to play at a high rate in order to match their elite offensive production. Per their metrics, the Padres offense have shown they can match the Dodgers output as both units rank near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Fortunately for San Diego, their offense will have the opportunity to continue to play at a high rate as they are set to face off against Walker Buehler. Once considered a Cy Young caliber pitcher, Buehler has yet to look like his former self as he continues to struggle with limiting opposing offensive production. In 15 starts this season, Buehler has generated an ERA of 5.63, a WHIP of 1.578, and a FIP of 5.69 while conceding over one Hit Against per Inning Pitched.
On the other side of the field, the Dodgers offense will be given a chance to match the Padres scoring pace as they also draw a favorable matchup with Joe Musgrove set to take the mound. While Musgrove has steadily improved throughout the season, he still flirts with disaster by averaging nearly one Hit Against per Inning Pitched while generating a FIP of 3.97. Musgrove also receives inconsistent support from his back end as the Padres defense has regressed down to league average in Defensive Efficiency.

Well before the start of our first YRFI, we focus on the afternoon matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates as a pair of underwhelming pitchers are set to take the mound. While the Pirates are statistically eliminated from making the playoffs, the NL Central clinching Brewers still have more to play for as they chase after the Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies in the overall standings for one of the two byes in the playoffs.
In order for Milwaukee to close the gap between them and the current leaders, they must take advantage of their matchup against the Pirates Mitch Keller as he has struggled with keeping opposing runners off the bases as his WHIP of 1.295 indicates. That bodes well for the Brewers as they have excelled at making contact and getting into scoring position at a high rate as they currently rank well above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
As for the Pirates, their lowly offense will be in a position to receive an uptick in production as they are set to face off against the Brewers Aaron Civale. Civale has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series as he continues to severely underwhelm on the mound. In 30 starts this season, Civale takes the mound with an ERA of 4.53, a WHIP of 1.329, and a FIP of 4.84.
