With a pair of underwhelming pitchers set to take the mound, we target the contest between the San Francisco GIants and Arizona Diamondbacks as both clubs will be in a position to open up the scoring early. We also target the matchup between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays as the Red Sox productive offense gets a favorable matchup against the Blue Jays struggling Chris Bassitt.

With only six games remaining in the regular season, the Arizona Diamondbacks need to be near perfect as they are only two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the wildcard standings for the last wildcard spot in the playoffs. Securing a wildcard spot is vital for the Diamondbacks to guarantee a playoff berth as they are nearly statistically eliminated from winning the NL West division title, sitting five games back from the Los Angeles Dodgers for first in the division standings.
Should the Diamondbacks want to maintain their lead for the last wildcard spot, then their offense must continue to play at a high rate in order to mask their lack of defensive production. Entering Monday’s contest against the San Francisco Giants, the Diamondbacks as a whole ranks near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage, while their defense ranks near dead last in Team Total Pitching ERA and Defensive Efficiency.
Heading into Monday’s contest against San Francisco, their offense will be in a position to continue to succeed as they are set to face off against the Giants Hayden Birdsong. Birdsong has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series this season as he has struggled with keeping opposing runners off the bases, taking the mound with a WHIP of 1.388 and FIP of 4.94. Better yet for Arizona, the Giants defense gives Birdsong minimal support as they rank 25th overall in Defensive Efficiency.
On the other side of the field, the San Francisco Giants regressing offense will be given an opportunity to round back into form as they also draw a favorable matchup with Eduardo Rodriguez set to take the mound. Rodriguez has struggled with avoiding contact in his minimal appearances so far this season, taking the mound averaging more than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched while generating a WHIP of 1.451.

Hours before Monday night’s main event between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, we turn our attention towards the matchup between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. While the Blue Jays are already statistically eliminated from being able to make the playoffs, the Red Sox are still considered in contention as they are four games back from the Detroit Tigers in the wildcard standings with six games remaining in the season.
In order to make the playoffs, the Red Sox will need to win out while hoping the contenders ahead of them go through a slump. Luckily for Boston, their offense draws a favorable matchup against the Blue Jays Chris Bassitt as he has struggled with limiting opposing offensive production this season. In 166.2 Innings Pitched, Bassitt takes the mound with an ERA of 4.16, a WHIP of 1.434, a FIP of 4.00, 176 Hits Against, and 77 Earned Runs Allowed.
As for the Blue Jays, their top heavy offense is tasked with swinging against a far more productive arm as they are set to face off against the Red Sox former AL Cy Young contender Tanner Houck who takes the mound with a ERA of 3.21 and a WHIP of 1.163. Fortunately for the Blue Jays, Houck is surrounded by a regressing back end as the Red Sox defense as a whole enters the contest ranked 20th overall in Defensive Efficiency.
