With Spencer Arrighetti set to take the mound, we focus on the matchup between the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres as the Padres offense should open up the scoring early off the bats of their elite contact ability. Shortly before Monday’s main event, we turn our attention towards the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers as the Phillies get the benefit of swinging against the Brewers lowly Aaron Civale.

With 13 games remaining in the season, the Padres need to continue to play at a high level in order to hold on to their lead in the wildcard standings. Entering the final two weeks of play, the Padres have a three game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks and a four game lead over the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. Only three of the four move on to the playoffs, bringing a higher sense of urgency in each game played for the wildcard hopefuls.
Fortunately for the Padres, their offense is given an opportunity to continue to play at a high rate as they are set to face off against the Houston Astros lowly Spencer Arrighetti. Arrighetti has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series as he has continued to struggle with limiting opposing offensive production in his 2024 campaign. In 26 starts this season, Arrighetti takes the mound with an ERA of 4.72, a WHIP of 1.420, and a FIP of 4.18.
Not only do we get to fade the Astros Spencer Arrighetti, but we also get to simultaneously back their elite top of the order. Houston’s offense has been their lone source of consistent production this season, entering the contest ranked near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. With former AL MVP contender Kyle Tucker back from injury, the Astros top of their order are even more dangerous as he brings an elite blend of power and contact ability.
Every bit of the Astros offensive production will be needed in their contest against the Padres as they draw a much tougher assignment with Yu Darvish set to take the mound. In his minimal appearances, Darvish has excelled at limiting the number of opposing runners on base as his WHIP of 1.141 indicates. Luckily for Houston, Darvish receives little support from his back end as the Padres defense as a whole ranks 21st overall in Defensive Efficiency.

Before Monday’s main event, we turn our attention towards the matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers as both clubs look to inch closer to grabbing one of the two byes in the playoffs. The Brewers are currently just one game back from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the overall standings, desperately needing to string together a win streak to help leap over the World Series betting favorites.
Should the Brewers want to close the gap between them and the Dodgers in the overall standings, then their offense must continue to play at a high rate as they are set to face off against the Phillies Ranger Suarez. Suarez flirted with Cy Young contention earlier in the season, yet a vicious cold streak forced him to stumble down the oddsboard. Still, Suarez brings a high level of individual production on the mound as he enters the contest with a FIP of 3.09.
On the other side of the field, the Phillies elite top of their order will get the opportunity to open up the scoring early as they get the benefit of swinging against the Brewers Aaron Civale. Since being traded, Civale has continued to struggle in his new home as he has generated a FIP of 4.69, a WHIP of 1.227, and nearly one Hit Against per Inning Pitched since joining the Brewers.
