With Walker Buehler continuing to struggle since making his return to the mound, he makes for an instant fade target as he is set to face off against a productive Chicago Cubs offense. Well before Monday night’s main event, we target the matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox as a pair of struggling pitchers are set to face off against a pair of elite offenses.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers are a near lock to make the playoffs as the current leader in the NL West division standings, the Chicago Cubs have their work cut out for them as they are currently on the outside looking in. Time is quickly running out for the Cubs for them to secure their spot in the playoffs as they are currently five games back from the Atlanta Braves for the last playoff berth in the wildcard standings.
Leaping over the Braves in the wildcard standings is their best course of making the playoffs as the Milwaukee Brewers possess a nine game lead for first in the NL Central. With less than 20 games remaining, the Cubs must rattle off a win streak in order for them to close the gap between them and the Braves. Unfortunately for them, they are set to face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers who are the current betting favorites to win the World Series.
Should they want to kick off their streak with a massive win over the vaunted Dodgers, then their offense must take advantage of Walker Buehler’s struggles on the mound. In 12 appearances so far this season, Buehler enters the contest with an ERA of 5.67 and a FIP of 5.98. While Buehler is certainly capable of rounding back into dominant form, he makes for an instant fade target until he proves otherwise.
On the other side of the mound, the Dodgers offense will be in a position to open up the scoring early as they are set to face off against the Cubs Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks has struggled mightily with keeping opposing runners off the bases, taking the mound with a ERA of 6.60 and a WHIP of 1.514. Expect the Dodgers to immediately threaten to get into scoring position as they rank near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.

Like the Cubs, the Boston Red Sox are also currently out of the playoff picture as they are 10 games back from the New York Yankees in the AL East division standings and 4 games back from the Minnesota Twins for the last wildcard spot. As for Baltimore, they possess a firm lead for the first wildcard spot while also a half game back from the Yankees in the division standings.
Should the Orioles want to leap back over the Yankees and bolster their chances of making a run to the World Series with a bye in the playoffs, then their offense must open up the scoring early against Brayan Bello and the lowly Red Sox defense. Bello has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series as he continues to put opposing runners in scoring position at a troublesome rate, taking the mound with a WHIP of 1.380 and 75 Earned Runs Allowed in 26 games played.
As for the Red Sox, their offense will be given an opportunity to match the Orioles' scoring pace as they also get the benefit of swinging against an equally struggling pitcher with Cade Povich set to take the mound. Povich has struggled with limiting opposing offensive production in his minimal appearances, conceding over one Hit Against per Inning Pitched while generating an ERA of 5.76, a WHIP of 1.601, and a FIP of 5.03.
