As we near the end of the season, the Baltimore Orioles get the opportunity to create some separation in the AL East standings as their offense is in a position to open up the scoring early against the New York Mets David Peterson. Later in the night, we turn our attention towards the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants as both offenses are set to face off against a pair of underwhelming pitchers.

With a little less than 40 games remaining in the regular season, the Baltimore Orioles find themselves in the midst of a tight race for the AL East division title against the New York Yankees. Fortunately for Baltimore, they get the opportunity to create some separation in the standings as they are set to face off against the Mets' David Peterson.
Peterson has made multiple appearances in our daily YRFI series as he continues to put runners on base and in scoring position at an alarming rate. While he has managed to minimize the damage as he possesses an ERA of 3.04, Peterson is flirting with disaster as his WHIP creeps up to 1.394. That indicates negative regression is looming large, especially as his independent play clocks in at an FIP of 4.38.
Expect negative regression to come crashing down on the Mets lowly pitcher as he is set to face off against a productive Baltimore offense. While their On Base Percentage has dropped to near league average, the Orioles still excel at making contact and bringing in their runners as they currently rank near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, and Total Runs Scored.
Speaking of productive offenses, the Mets have continued to play at a high rate as they currently rank well above league average in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. They will get the opportunity to continue to succeed against the Orioles' newly acquired Trevor Rogers as he has struggled mightily in his new setting. In three games played with the Orioles, Rogers takes the mound with an ERA of 7.53, a WHIP of 1.884, 20 Hits Against, and 12 Earned Runs Allowed.

After the conclusion of our first YRFI, we turn our focus towards the matchup between the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants as both offenses get the benefit of swinging against a pair of struggling pitchers. While the White Sox are statistically eliminated from making the playoffs, the Giants are still in contention for the last wildcard spot as they are currently four games back from the Atlanta Braves.
Should the Giants want to salvage their season and play in October, then they must string together a winning streak to help close the gap on the Braves as an NL West Division title is unattainable. A three-game series against the White Sox presents them an opportunity to get hot, especially when they are set to face off against Jonathan Cannon. Cannon has struggled with limiting opposing offensive production this season as he possesses an ERA of 4.02 and an FIP of 4.71.
The issue for San Francisco in their attempt of setting a scoring pace too fast for the White Sox to keep up with is that they trot out Kyle Harrison who has equally struggled in his efforts of putting away opposing offenses. With an ERA of 4.14, a WHIP of 1.306, and a back end that ranks 27th in Defensive Efficiency, expect an uptick in offensive production from the White Sox as they get the opportunity to play at a more competitive level.
