With the Astros' Spencer Arrighetti set to take the mound, the Chicago White Sox offense find themselves with as good an opportunity as they can ask for in their efforts of playing at a productive level. While that takes place, we also target the matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Guardians as both offenses are in a position to open up the scoring early against a pair of underwhelming pitchers.

In the midst of a two-horse race against the Seattle Mariners, the Houston Astros have a chance to pad their lead at the top of the AL West Division standings against the worst team in the league. With a little over a month left of play, every game brings a higher sense of urgency as we near the end of the regular season. Especially with the loser between them and the Mariners missing out on the playoffs as both clubs are out of wildcard contention.
Should the Astros want to make quick work of the White Sox and create more separation from the Mariners in the standings, then their offense will need to continue to play at a high level and establish a quick scoring pace. That has been the strength of the team all season long as the Astros offense ranks well above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Limiting opposing offensive production has been a strength for the White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet as his WHIP of 1.069 indicates, but he will be tested from the opening pitch against an elite Astros top of their order. Especially with MLB Hits Leader contenders Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, and Yordan Alvarez all bringing an elite blend of power and contact ability, applying pressure to a White Sox back end that ranks well below league average in Defensive Efficiency.
As for the White Sox, their offense has continued to play as one of the worst units in the league by ranking in the bottom three in the same previously mentioned metrics. Fortunately for them, the Astros' Spencer Arrighetti gives them an opportunity to play at a more productive level as he continues to struggle with his command. Entering Friday’s contest, Arrighetti takes the mound with an ERA of 5.14, WHIP of 1.448, and FIP of 4.18.

At the same time as our previously mentioned YRFI, we also focus on the matchup between two division leaders as both the Cleveland Guardians and Milwaukee Brewers are in a position to succeed right out of the gate. An uptick in offensive production is exactly what the Guardians need as they have regressed to below-average marks in Team Total Hits and On Base Percentage.
Luckily for Cleveland, their offense has the opportunity to shake off their slump and build some momentum as the Brewers' newly acquired Aaron Civale has struggled with avoiding contact and keeping opposing runners off the bases. Expect the Guardians offense to round back into form as Civale takes the mound with an ERA of 5.02, a WHIP of 1.394, an FIP of 4.91, 126 Hits Against, and 66 Earned Runs Allowed.
On the other side of the field, the Guardians trot out Gavin Williams who has equally as struggled as Civale in his brief appearances so far this season. In 8 games played, Williams enters the contest with an ERA of 4.38 and a WHIP of 1.359. With the Brewers' offense ranking near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage, expect Williams's struggles of limiting opposing production to continue.
