With the Dodgers lead at the top of the NL West standings dwindling, the Arizona Diamondbacks are given an opportunity to continue to close the gap with a favorable matchup against the Cleveland Guardians Logan Allen. While that takes place, we also focus on the contest between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals as our favorite fade target Patrick Corbin is set to take the mound.

While the Dodgers deal with a plethora of injuries, they are as prone as ever to losing their lead at the top of the NL West division standings with the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks nipping at their heels. Mookie Betts is still out with a hand injury while Yoshinobu Yamamoto tends to a shoulder issue. Former Total Hits leader Freddie Freeman is also away from the team as he is dealing with a family emergency.
Should the Diamondbacks want to take advantage of the Dodgers regression and close the gap on their lead for the division title, then their offense will need to continue to play at an elite rate. Heading into their matchup against the AL Central leading Cleveland Guardians, the Diamondbacks offense ranks well above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Against the Guardians Logan Allen, the Diamondbacks offense has as good an opportunity to succeed as Allen has mightily struggled with limiting the number of opposing scoring opportunities. Productive offenses have had no issue with getting into scoring position and bringing their runners in for points on the board as Allen takes the mound with an ERA of 5.67, a WHIP of 1.546, a FIP of 5.45, 100 Hits Against, and 55 Earned Runs Allowed in 87.1 Innings Pitched.
On the other side of the field, the Diamondbacks roll out Zac Gallen who has drastically fallen down the oddsboard for the NL Cy Young award after being listed as a contender heading into the year. Gallen has struggled with keeping opposing runners off the bases, entering the contest with a WHIP of 1.249. His back end also does him no favors with trying to limit opposing production as their defense ranks 23rd overall in Defensive Efficiency.

Minutes after our previously mentioned YRFI kicks off, our next one gets underway when the San Francisco Giants battle it out against the Washington Nationals. While the Giants are still in contention for one of the three wildcard spots, they have some work to do as they are four games back from a playoff berth and 9.5 games back from the Dodgers for first place in the NL West division standings.
Their surging offense will find themselves in a position to continue to succeed as they get the benefit of going against the Nationals Patrick Corbin. Corbin has been a routine fade target for our daily YRFI series as he continues to struggle with limiting opposing offensive production. Entering Monday’s contest against the Giants, Corbin takes the mound with an ERA of 5.88, a WHIP of 1.529, 146 Hits Against, and an astonishing 79 Earned Runs Allowed.
As for the Nationals, they are set to face off against the Giants Logan Webb who has mightily struggled with avoiding contact. In 23 total games played, Webb has conceded 148 Hits Against to go along with a WHIP of 1.275. With Webb prone to getting rocked, the lowly Nationals should generate offensive production at a more consistent rate which may result in an uptick in potential scoring opportunities as well.
