With the acquisition of Randy Arozarena, the Seattle Mariners will look to start off their contest against the Boston Red Sox with more offensive production with the former Tampa Bay Ray slotted in the top of their batting order. We then shift our focus towards the matchup between the Washington Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks as both units are set to face off against a pair of struggling pitchers.

It’s been a turbulent year for the Seattle Mariners, a team that once had a commanding lead at the top of the AL West division standings before conceding their lead to the surging Houston Astros. Their lack of offensive production has been a thorn in their side all season long and a major reason why they forfeited their lead as they rank in the bottom five in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
While their offense has struggled with generating offensive production, their defense continues to pace the rest of the league as they rank first in Defensive Efficiency and Team Total Pitching ERA. Knowing they desperately needed to add offensive firepower in an attempt to round into a formidable contender for a run at the World Series, the Mariners made a move for Tampa Bay Rays Randy Arozarena as we near the trade deadline.
With Arozarena in the top of their batting order, the Mariners offense is in a position to open up the scoring early as he brings an elite blend of power and contact ability. Especially against the Red Sox Nick Pivetta as he has struggled with limiting opposing scoring opportunities. Pivetta takes the mound with an ERA of 4.50, a WHIP of 1.179, and a FIP of 3.79.
As for the Red Sox, their offense has been a consistent source of elite production as they continue to rank well above league average in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Every bit of their offensive production will be needed against the Mariners Logan Gilbert as he flirts with Cy Young contention. Logan Gilbert takes the mound with an ERA of 2.72, a WHIP of 0.863, a FIP of 3.28, 94 Hits Against, and 42 Earned Runs Allowed in 21 games played.

While the Mariners defense has had the unfortunate task of having to mask their lack of offensive production, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been on the opposite side of the coin. Entering the second half of the season, the Diamondbacks offense currently ranks above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage, while their defense ranks below league average in Defensive Efficiency and Team Total Pitching ERA.
Their lack of defense and consistent source of offensive production has made the Diamondbacks a popular team to back for our daily YRFI series. Their elite offense is in a position to continue to succeed in their matchup against the Washington Nationals as Mitchell Parker has struggled with limiting the quality of opposing scoring opportunities. Parker takes the mound with an ERA of 4.34, a WHIP of 1.206, and FIP of 4.01.
As for the Nationals, their offense has steadily surged up the board to near league average marks in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. They now have an opportunity to build some momentum against the Diamondbacks Jordan Montgomery who has continued to play as one of the worst starting pitchers in the league. Montgomery enters the contest with an ERA of 6.11, a WHIP of 1.613, 90 Hits Against, and 48 Earned Runs Allowed.
