Tuesday’s slate may seem daunting at first with an abundance of top level pitchers taking the mound, but two YRFIs still stick out ripe for the picking. Both take place at night when the Houston Astros look to chip away at the Seattle Mariners divisional lead while the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres battle it out against two underwhelming pitchers. We start our Tuesday YRFI slate with a mega divisional showdown when the Houston Astros look to continue to climb up the standings against the Seattle Mariners. It was as rough of a start to the season as the Astros could ask for, sitting under .500 and at one point dead last in the AL West standings. They have since steadily climbed back up the standings after an impressive month of play, now looking to continue to chip away at the Mariners lead.
Should they want to close the gap in the standings then the Astros elite offense will need to continue to produce against the Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo. The Astros offense have been their lone consistent source of success amidst their early season struggles as they rank above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Their offensive production heavily shades towards the top of their order, making them a consistent team to back when wagering on a YRFI. Kyle Tucker has built a case as a potential MVP contender while Yordan Alvarez is a home run threat with every swing of the bat. Every bit of their contact abilities will be called upon against the Mariners Castillo who possesses an ERA of 3.31 and a WHIP of 1.209.
As for the Mariners, their early season success has stemmed more from their defense as their offense has yet to find their footing by ranking below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Luckily for the Mariners, they now get the opportunity to generate some offensive momentum against the Astros lowly Hunter Brown. Brown has had an abysmal start to the year as he comes into the contest with an ERA of 7.06 and a WHIP of 1.777.

As soon as our first YRFI of the day kicks off, our next one follows suit when the Miami Marlins battle it out against the San Diego Padres. It’s been a rough 2024 campaign for the Marlins as they have battled through numerous injuries to their pitching staff that has voided them of defensive production. This has led to them throwing in the towel early on in the season by trading away league leading hits contender Luis Arraez Jr to the Padres.
Now slotted at the top of the Padres batting order, Arraez will be in a position to kick off the scoring early against his former team. He will be in a great spot to add to his hits total against the Marlins as Jesus Luzardo comes into the contest with an ERA of 4.14, a WHIP of 1.095, 36 Hits Allowed, and 21 Earned Runs Against in eight games played.
As for the Marlins, their offense has mightily struggled as expected by coming into the contest ranked below league average in RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Positive regression does loom large for the Marlins offense as they rank average in Total Hits and now have an opportunity to turn their hits into runs against the Padres Matt Waldron who comes into the contest with a WHIP of 1.440.
