Thursday’s slate may be limited, but two YRFIs still stick out for our betting pleasure. We start our day with an afternoon YRFI when the San Diego Padres take on the Cincinnati Reds whose offense is poised to positively regress back towards the mean. We then turn our attention towards an underwhelming matchup on paper when the Colorado Rockies faceoff against the Oakland Athletics. For more information about the YRFI market and what factors make them worth a wager, take a look at our breakdown of what are YRFI bets.
As for where to wager on YRFIs, FanDuel Sportsbook has been the front runner for the market as they consistently put out lines before everyone else and at very favorable odds when compared to the rest of the mobile sportsbooks. It hasn’t exactly been a banner year for the Reds offense, a unit that is filled with bright young talent like Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, and Johnathan India who are fresh off of an exciting 2023 campaign. Now in last place in the NL Central standings, their offense ranks well below league average in Total Runs Scored, RBIs, On Base Percentage, and dead last in the league in Team Total Hits.
The Reds are now at the point where they keep drastically changing their batting order in hopes of finding a lineup that can generate consistent production. In their last outing, the Reds kept Elly De La Cruz as the second hitter, dropped India down to the eight spot, Spencer Steer down to six, and Will Benson cleaning things up at nine. This hopefully gives them productive bats throughout the order while maintaining star level talent at the top.
While spreading out their top of the order talent does wipe some of the shine off of a YRFI, they are still in a great position to find success right away against the Padres Matt Waldron. Waldron has had a forgettable start to the year as the Padres starting pitcher, coming into the contest with an ERA of 5.00, a WHIP of 1.422, 47 Hits Allowed, and a startling 25 Earned Runs Against in nine games played.
As for the Padres offense, they are blessed with an opportunity to continue on their hot start to the season against the Reds Frankie Montas. Like Waldron, Montas has also struggled at this point of the season as he takes the mound with an ERA of 4.37 and a WHIP of 1.371 and now has to face the contending league leader in Total Hits Luis Arraez at the top of the order. Along with Arraez, the Padres offense ranks above league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.

While the Colorado Rockies and the Oakland Athletics offense don’t exactly wow on paper, that doesn’t mean that there isn't value in the YRFI as both units get the benefit of taking on two underwhelming pitchers. Both offenses come into the contest ranked well below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage, and now get the chance to build some momentum with high quality contact opportunities.
Starting with the Colorado Rockies, they roll out Ryan Feltner who has been a popular fade target for our daily YRFI series. With nine appearances so far this season, Feltner comes into the contest with an ERA of 5.69, a WHIP of 1.490, 42 Total Strikeouts, 14 Batters Walked, an astonishing 59 Hits Allowed, and 31 Earned Runs Against.
As for the Athletics, they have started to cool off after a hot start to the season. Their defense once carried a brunt of their success when they were playing well above preseason projections and now rank near dead last in Team Total ERA. Joey Estes is poised to continue their downward trend as the A’s struggling pitcher as he comes into the contest with an ERA of 9.35 and a WHIP of 1.615 in just two games played.
