We start off our night backing two of the most explosive offenses in the league with the Dodgers and Padres ranking at the top of the board in Team Total Hits, On-Base Percentage, RBIs, and Runs Scored. While early season success was expected from the Dodgers, the Padres have been a relatively pleasant surprise as they were projected in the preseason to finish fourth in the NL West standings.
Better yet for the Padres, they made a move to help bolster their offense with the acquisition of the Miami Marlins star contact hitter Luis Arraez. Arraez led the league in total hits for a majority of the year last season before having to be sidelined with an injury, now finding himself near the top of the board once again. With his contact ability, the Padres have slotted him at the top of their lineup in an attempt to get someone on base and in scoring position with Fernando Tatis Jr following right after.
They now get a good opportunity to carry their momentum against the Dodgers James Paxton who has had a roller coaster of a start of a season. Once finding himself as a common fade target earlier this year, Paxton has since turned his season around with a few good consistent performances. He is still prone to getting rocked against a competent offense, possessing an ERA of 3.06 and a WHIP of 1.546.
As for the Dodgers, they face off against the Padres Matt Waldron who has mightily struggled so far this season. Waldron comes into the contest with an ERA of 5.82, a WHIP of 1.559, 40 Hits Allowed, and 22 Earned Runs Against in seven games played. His struggles are poised to continue against a Dodgers top of the order that features MVP front runner Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman.
Right before the highly anticipated matchup between the Dodgers and Padres, the Texas Rangers face off against the Colorado Rockies at the friendliest hitting park in the league. Balls carry a lot farther at Coors Field, being prone to getting sent over the barrier at a moment's notice. That bodes well for a powerful hitting lineup like the Rangers, a unit that ranks above average in Team Total Hits and Home Runs.
The Rangers top of the order is in a position to continue to succeed as well as they face off against the Rockies Ryan Feltner who has had an underwhelming start to his 2024 campaign. Feltner comes into the contest with an ERA of 5.54, a WHIP of 1.462, an astonishing 47 Hits Allowed, and 24 Earned Runs Against in seven games played.
As for the Rockies, their offense is in a position to bounce back against the Ranger's Andrew Heaney, who has been a familiar fade target in this daily YRFI series. Heaney has yet to round back into form, averaging an ERA of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.111. After starting the year ranked dead last in various offensive metrics, the Rockies' offense have built some momentum and have been creeping up to league average in Team Total Hits, On Base Percentage, and Runs Scored.
