After getting canceled the day before due to poor weather, we are once again targeting the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals for a potential YRFI as they roll out two new underwhelming pitchers in their afternoon matchup. We then turn our sights towards the struggling Houston Astros as they look to turn their season around after a poor start to their year. For more information about the YRFI market and what factors make them worth a wager, take a look at our breakdown of what are YRFI bets.
As for where to wager on YRFIs, the FanDuel Sportsbook has been the industry leader for the market as they routinely put out lines before everyone else and at very favourable odds when compared to the rest of the mobile apps.

As previously mentioned, both Zac Gallen and Yoshinobu Yamamoto came into the season with Cy Young award expectations. Both could be found near the top-5 in the award market, yet both have seemingly fallen down the board after two sluggish starts. While not putting up putrid numbers, they have still played below their preseason expectations and now have to face off against two elite batting units.
Starting with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, no one came into the league with higher preseason expectations after being highly sought after. The Dodgers managed to edge everyone else out for the Yamamoto sweepstakes, yet he has failed to do his part at a consistent level after a disastrous start to the season. He has managed to minimize some of the damage, yet still possesses an ERA of 3.54 and a WHIP of 1.071.
His slow start bumped Yamamoto down the lineup with Tyler Glasnow being pegged as the team’s go-to ace. The Diamondbacks top of their batting order will do him no favors in his effort to build back trust, ranking well above average in team total hits, on base percentage, runs, and RBIs. Whether it is via contact or getting walked, the Diamondbacks are well disciplined and routinely find themselves with runners in scoring position.
As for the Dodgers offense, they get the opportunity to face off against Zac Gallen who has seemingly taken a step back with his pitching production to start out his 2024 campaign. Gallen comes into the contest with an ERA of 3.38, a WHIP of 1.219, 35 strikeouts, 30 hits allowed, nine batters walked, and 12 earned runs against in six games played.
His steadily increasing WHIP will be tested against the best top of the order in the league, having to face off against MVP front runner Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith. All four players possess an elite blend of power and contact ability and are capable of punishing the aggressive Gallen should he continue to struggle with the consistency of his command.

The Washington Nationals have managed to play well above preseason expectations and that is off the backs of their offense who has thrived with getting runners on base. They now get the opportunity to continue to defy preseason expectations, facing off against the struggling Andrew Heaney.
Struggling is putting it modestly as Heaney has yet to round into competitive form after starting off his 2024 campaign with an ERA of 6.26, a WHIP of 1.261, 22 strikeouts, 20 hits allowed, nine batters walked, and 16 earned runs against in five games played. His low strikeout rate shows his inability to punch out, now having to face off against the Nationals who rank well above average in on base percentage.
As for the Rangers, they face off against a far tougher test in Trevor Williams who is currently throwing for career bests with an ERA of 2.70 and a WHIP of 1.050. This is a massive difference from his career averages, indicating that negative regression looms large for the veteran pitcher. The Rangers field a dangerous batting lineup, ranking above average in total hits and on base percentage.
