In the midst of the NBA and NHL playoffs, the MLB regular season rolls on with a jam-packed Monday slate. Monday features plenty of above-average pitchers, leaving us thin for a potential YRFI. Nonetheless, two games stick out for a potential YRFI wager with a group of productive batters poised to positively regress back towards their expected mean. For more information about YRFIs and what factors into them being worth a wager, you can read it here.
As for where to wager on YRFIs, the FanDuel Sportsbook has been the front-runner for the market since the start of the 2024 season. FanDuel has routinely put out lines before anyone else and is at very favorable odds when compared to the rest of the mobile sportsbook apps. For those who have not signed up yet with the FanDuel sportsbook, you can collect $200 in bonus bets for simply creating an account and placing your first bet of at least $5 wagered.

While fading regressing pitchers is normally the smart move to make when wagering on a YRFI, our first wager of the day attacks the Philadelphia Phillies Ranger Suarez who has been lights out to start the year. Suarez has steadily climbed up the odds board for the NL Cy Young, making a serious claim for it as a viable contender in a wide-open race for the award.
Ranger Suarez has made quick work against the batters who have stepped up to the plate to face him, coming into the contest with an ERA of 1.73, a WHIP of 0.769, 27 strikeouts, four batters walked, 16 hits allowed, and just five earned runs against. An impressive stat line, yet regression may be looming large against a dangerous Reds batting lineup.
It’s no secret that the Cincinnati Reds' success stems from their offense as they field an elite batting order with productive depth from top to bottom. While they have been in a rut the past two weeks, positive regression looms large as Will Benson, Elly De La Cruz, and Spencer Steer all possess an elite blend of power and contact as a formidable starting trio. Expect the Reds' elite batters to bridge the gap of production from the dangerous Suarez and apply pressure early on with runners on base.
As for the Reds, they trot out Hunter Greene who has had a sluggish start to his 2024 campaign. Greene hasn’t exactly put together a competitive 2024 stat line like his counterpart Ranger Suarez, coming into this contest with an ERA of 4.35, a WHIP of 1.306, 18 hits allowed, nine batters walked, and 10 earned runs against.
His steadily increasing WHIP is especially inviting to fade against, especially as he faces an elite Phillies batting lineup that fields three MVP-level batters. The trio of Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper can rival the best of the trios in the league, especially if Trea Turner starts to round back into form as a former two-time league leader in hits.

Before the evening slate kicks off, we target the lone afternoon game with the Oakland Athletics set to face off against the New York Yankees. It’s an intriguing battle between two teams trending in different directions, yet both field underwhelming pitchers who have struggled so far this season.
While the Oakland Athletics batting lineup is not exactly an ideal unit to back in terms of offensive production, they at least get the benefit of taking on the Yankees Carlos Rodon who has struggled with keeping opposing batters off the bases. Rodon’s lack of command shows with his high WHIP mark, coming into the game with a WHIP of 1.678. That is nearly two batters on base per inning, indicating the Athletics may have someone in scoring position to help potentially cash this wager.
As for the Athletics, they trot out JP Sears who comes into the contest with an ERA of 4.35, a WHIP of 1.161, 15 hits allowed, nine batters walked, and 10 earned runs against. His high walk rate indicates regressing command, now having to throw aggressively against Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Expect his aggressiveness to come back to bite him, getting punished for hanging balls over the plate against the Yankees elite batters.
