The first game of the National League Divisional Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves didn't go as well for the Braves. The Phillies took game one on the road versus the Braves 3-0.
Of all the games in the ALDS and the NLDS, the low-scoring matchup between the Phillies and the Braves. There wasn't a run from the Phillies until the fourth inning.
The pitching matchups were more favorable for runs to occur early and often as the starting pitchers for the Braves and Phillies were not among the most efficient on the roster.
On Monday, the Braves and the Phillies are going into this game with two of their best-starting pitchers on the team. The Phillies are going with Zack Wheeler (3.61 ERA in 192 innings pitched), while the Braves are going with left-handed pitcher Max Fried (2.55 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched).
There is a great chance that there will not be a run scored until much later in the game until either pitcher starts losing velocity or the opposing batting team starts gaining a rhythm. In game one of the series on Saturday, the Braves and the Phillies combined for 11 hits and seven walks while striking 19 times. There could be similar numbers with both the Phillies and the Braves going with their best pitchers.
Much like the Atlanta Braves in their first game of the postseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers had an abysmal start to their first postseason game on Saturday. In game one of the National League Divisional Series between the Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks, it was the Diamondbacks that completely dominated with an 11-2 win.
In the game, the Diamondbacks got off to a 6-0 start in the first inning and followed up the second inning with three more runs. Arizona's young batting team humiliated Dodgers' starting Clayton Kershaw by scoring six runs, with one being a home run before being replaced in the first inning.
On Monday, both the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers are coming into game two with two of their most experienced pitchers. The Diamondbacks are going with Zac Gallen (3.47 ERA in 210 innings pitched) while the Dodgers are going with Bobby Miller (3.76 ERA in 124.1 innings pitched).
It is unlikely that the Diamondbacks are going to have another scoring streak against a Dodgers pitcher in their prime. The Dodgers are looking to spark up their batting game, but they may find it difficult against the stellar pitching of Gallen.
Expect a low-scoring game in the beginning due to the efficiency of both starting pitchers going into game two.
