Our first MLB NRFI bet of the day for Friday comes from Tampa, where the Rays will host the Texas Rangers. This weekend's series is set to pit the two best offensive teams in baseball against one another. But we expect the two explosive offenses in this matchup to be shut down in the opening inning of play at Tropicana Field.
Both teams are sending solid starters to the mound for this game, as Andrew Heaney takes the mound for the Rangers, while Tyler Glasnow will get the start for the Rays. Heaney is 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA on the season so far, while Glasnow has yet to record a decision but has an ERA of 3.72 in 2023. Look for both pitchers to hold up their end of the bargain and to hold the opposing lineup scoreless here.
It is also worth noting that both of these potent offenses have struggled somewhat in their last couple of games. Texas lost their last game by a score of 1-0 against the struggling St. Louis Cardinals, while the Rays have scored just six runs combined in their last two outings. A surprisingly low-scoring game could be in the cards here, including a first-inning that does not see a run.

Next up, we should see another NRFI hit in the game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. In this rivalry matchup, one of the best pitchers in the American League will take the hill, as Gerrit Cole leads the Yankees into battle. That, combined with a key injury in the Yankees lineup, should help these American League East foes go into the second inning with the score deadlocked at zero.
Gerrit Cole has been incredible this season for the Yankees, going 7-0 with a 2.82 ERA in his 79.2 innings of work. Cole should be able to do his part to keep this game scoreless in the opening frame. That is especially true with Cole pitching at home, where his ERA is slightly lower than it is on the road.
Also helping this game to stay scoreless in the first inning will be the fact that the Yankees are without their best bat. Aaron Judge is on the IL for this contest, which will dramatically decrease the run-scoring potential of the New York offense. Even against a struggling pitcher like Garrett Whitlock, the Yankees will stumble out of the blocks offensively once again.

Our final MLB NRFI pick for Friday will come from Toronto, where the Blue Jays will host the Minnesota Twins. In this contest, there are a couple of strong starting pitchers taking the mound. That will help the game remain scoreless, even if there are some explosive bats at the top of both of the batting orders in this game.
For the Twins, Sonny Gray is set to take the mound, who enters with a record of 4-1 and an ERA of 2.15. On the Toronto side, Yusei Kikuchi is going to take the hill for the Blue Jays, who enters this matchup with a 6-2 record of his own. Both of these pitchers will make an early impression on this game by holding their opponents scoreless in the opening inning of action.
