Of the six games set to be bet on this Monday, the first game matchup Colorado Rockies versus the Boston Red Sox is one of three games to have more earnings if the bet is under 0.5. Of those three games, the matchup with firepower at the plate is the series between the Rockies and the Red Sox.
On paper, both the Rockies and the Red Sox have reliable offenses at the plate to get them some runs. Colorado ranks sixth in the NL in runs accounted for this season (293), first in hits (578) and fifth in batting average (.258). Boston ranks third in the AL in runs accounted for (320), fourth in hits accounted for (576), fourth in batting average (.259) and fourth in on-base percentage (.332).
Both teams, however, are coming off rough performances. The Rockies scored four runs in the first before losing to the San Francisco Giants. Colorado would only score one run in the first inning of the three games of the following series at home against the San Diego Padres. The Red Sox have not scored a single run in the first inning in any of their last four games. Boston has averaged only 2.3 runs in the three games against the New York Yankees despite winning the series 2-to-1.
The Rockies might be in some trouble on Monday as they will have Connor Seabold (5.10 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched) against the Red Sox. Boston will have James Paxton (3.81 ERA in 26 innings pitched) at the mound.
While the pitching isn’t great for either team, it will take some time for either team to redevelop that rhythm at the plate after some tough offensive performances in the last few games.
In one of the most exciting cross-divisional matchups of the new week, the Los Angeles Dodgers go on the road to take on the Texas Rangers. Both the Angels and the Rangers have been efficient this season in runs in the first inning.
The Angels rank fifth in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.64), while the Rangers rank sixth in the league in runs accounted for in runs accounted in the first (0.63). Both the Rangers and the Angels have struggled in the previous three games before Sunday’s matchups accounting for runs in the first innings.
There is a solid chance for one, or both, to account for runs in the first inning of Monday’s matchup. Los Angeles has averaged 0.79 runs in the first on the road this season, while Texas averages 0.87 runs in the first at home.
One aspect that is not giving the Angels bad losses this season is their performance at the plate. The Angels rank fourth in the AL in runs accounted for (315), fifth in hits accounted for (570), fifth in batting average (.255) and fifth in on-base percentage (.328). The Rangers have the top batting team in the AL as they rank first in runs accounted for (397), first in hits (605), first in batting average (.275) and first in on-base percentage (.343).
While the Rangers should be confident with Dane Dunning (2.52 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched) starting at the mound, the Angels might not be confident with Tyler Anderson (5.62 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched) at the mound against the Rangers.
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to make a surprise well into the 2023 MLB Season. The young high-caliber talent in their lineup has been the biggest reason for Arizona’s rise to the top of the loaded NL West division.
The Philadelphia Phillies have a much older and more experienced lineup this season. Two of their top three leaders in batting average are 30 years old or older. The Phillies currently ranks in the middle of the NL East as they are still finding their rhythm at the plate.
The Diamondbacks should be weary of the Phillies after Philadelphia took two of the three games in a three-game home series to end the weekend. Arizona is coming off a three-game road series sweep over the Detroit Tigers to end the weekend.
Arizona scored four runs in the first innings of the last four games played. Philadelphia was not able to score in the first inning of their last four except for their 7-3 win over the Dodgers on Sunday.
Both teams are coming into this matchup with some momentum. The keys to this game will be the pitching matchups, with the Phillies going with Matt Straham (3.61 ERA in 42.1 innings) and the Diamondbacks going with Tommy Henry (4.37 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched). Straham has allowed the fourth-most runs for the Phillies with 17. Henry has the highest ERA of the top three pitchers in the bullpen.
