Our first NRFI bet of the day will come from an interesting matchup. This matchup will be between the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Angels. The National won the first game of this series, but the Angeles still have the upper hand heading into this matchup. We will see two completely different pitchers in Josiah Gray and Shohei Ohtani on the mound. Gray struggled in his first start of the season, but I would still bet on him to get through the first inning scoreless. Bet on the NRFI.
Josiah Gray is the ace in this Nationals’ rotation. He has struggled in his short career, but Washington still has high hopes for him. Gray gave up five earned runs in his first start this season but rebounded in his second start when he only gave up one earned run in six innings. He was saddled with the loss, but that was because his offense failed to produce a run. I do not expect him to throw six innings and only give up one run once again in this game, but I do expect him to get through the first inning scoreless. Gray will face the likes of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in that first inning but will get through it without allowing a run.
Shohei Ohtani is having a great start on the mound to 2023. The Japanese sensation has only given up one earned run in 12 innings this season and has 18 strikeouts through two starts. Ohtani will have no problem running through the first few batters in the Nationals lineup. The Nationals are still going through a rebuild and have very few strong hitters, so this should be a breath of fresh air for Ohtani. He will mow down the first three Nationals before going up to the plate in the bottom of the first. Bet on the NRFI.
Our second NRFI bet of the day will come from an exciting matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Brewers and Diamondbacks have both had hot starts to the season and are in first place in each of their respective divisions. With that being said, two significantly different pitchers will be taking the mound for each team. I do not expect the first inning to go so smoothly in this game, and at least one run will be scored. Bet on the YRFI.
Corbin Burnes will get the start for the Brewers. Burnes had a great season last year and finished with a 2.94 ERA. However, he has not been able to bring last year’s success into this year. The 28-year-old has struggled quite a bit through his first two starts and has given up ten earned runs in 9⅓ innings. Corbin’s first start against the Cubs was not great but was not horrible. However, his second start was concerning. The righty gave up six earned runs in 4⅓ innings. He still has plenty of time to turn around his season, but I do not know if it will happen in this game. Burnes will likely face Ketel Marte, Josh Rojas, Lourdes Gurriel Jr, and possibly Christian Walker in the first inning. These players helped Arizona score a first inning run yesterday and will do the same today.
Merrill Kelly will get the nod for the Diamondbacks. Kelly has only pitched in 9⅓ innings this season but has put together decent results. He has a 3.86 ERA and is yet to give up a first inning run. He will face former NL MVP Christian Yelich, Willy Adames, and Rowdy Tellez in the first inning. These three should not be taken lightly but usually do not start to heat up until at least their second time around the lineup. Kelly will be able to get out of the first inning without a run, but Burnes will not. Bet on the YRFI.
Our third and final NRFI bet of the day will come from the Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants matchup. These teams are perennial, so it is always exciting when they face each other. Both teams have impressive lineups, but two solid pitchers will be taking the mound. Bet on the NRFI.
Dustin May will take the hill for the Dodgers. May has only given up one earned run in two starts this season and has been dominating opposing hitters. In 13 innings, he has only given up five hits and three walks. His numbers speak for themselves. May will face Thairo Estrada, Wilmer Flores, and Mike Yastrzemski to start this game. These two are proven hitters but have not faced May too much in their careers. This should be an advantage for May, as they do not know his pitching repertoire all too well. I expect May to give up more than one run in this game, but no runs in the first inning.
Alex Wood will get the start for the Giants. He may give up a hit or two but will not give up a run. Wood has only pitched three innings this season but only gave up one earned run in that time. He is not a stud on the mound, but he is a solid pitcher. The 32-year-old will face Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith in the first inning. This may be the best 1-2-3 hitting trio in baseball, but they will not score a first-inning run off Wood. This is because Betts, Freeman, and Smith do not have many RBIs against them. Wood will not give up a first-inning run. Bet on the NRFI.
