Negative regression looms large over the Miami Marlins offense as they face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks Eduardo Rodriguez who generates Strikeouts at a very high rate. Minutes after their contest gets underway, we turn our attention towards the matchup between Seattle and Cincinnati as both struggling lineups face off against a pair of arms who excel at keeping opposing runners out of scoring position.

Heading into the year, the Miami Marlins offense were projected to be one of the worst units in the league after they made minimal additions to their lineup in the offseason. A few weeks into the season, Miami has managed to surpass expectations as their offense ranks top-12 in Team Total Hits and On Base Percentage. While they do excel at making contact, the Marlins have struggled to bring their runners home as they also rank 19th overall in Total Runs Scored.
Against Arizona, expect the Marlins to continue to struggle with bringing in their runners as they face off against Eduardo Rodriguez who excels at avoiding contact while generating Strikeouts at a high rate. In his three starts, Rodriguez is averaging less than one Hit Against and over one Strikeout per Inning Pitched while generating a FIP of 3.26. Rodriguez is also supported by a productive back end as the Diamondbacks defense ranks seventh in Defensive Efficiency.
Speaking of productive offenses, the Diamondbacks have managed to carry over their momentum into this season as they continue to rank near the top of the board in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Unfortunately for Arizona, their Contact Rate is poised to regress as they face off against Edward Cabrera who excels at avoiding contact. In his lone start, Cabrera is averaging less than on Hit Against per Inning Pitched and an ERA of 3.18.

Since the start of the year, Bryan Woo has played at a Cy Young winning level as the Seattle pitcher is averaging an ERA of 2.84 and a FIP of 3.13. His success stems from his ability to keep opposing runners off the bases as he possesses a WHIP of 0.947 while averaging less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched. His low Strikeout Rate is a concern, especially if contact variance goes against him as his defense grades out poorly in Defensive Efficiency.
Fortunately for Woo, he faces off against a Cincinnati Reds offense who struggles to make contact as their lineup ranks in the bottom four in Team Total Hits and On Base Percentage. The Reds top of their order has been especially underwhelming as TJ Friedl, Matt McLain, and Elly de la Cruz all average less than one Hit per game and a Batting Average lower than 0.250.
On the other side of the field, Brady Singer has also managed to get off to a hot start as the Reds pitcher is averaging a WHIP of 1.059 and a FIP of 2.73. Like Woo, Singer is in a position to thrive as he faces off against a Mariners offense who ranks below league average in Team Total Hits and in On Base Percentage. Especially with his back end giving him a high level of support as the Reds currently lead the league in Defensive Efficiency.
