With the Seattle Mariners offensive woes carrying over into this season, the Cincinnati Reds Nick Lodolo will have a great opportunity to sustain his high level of play and string together another dominant performance. Shortly after their opening pitch, we turn our attention towards the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays as Kevin Gausman gets the benefit of throwing against an offense who struggles to make contact at a league average rate.

While the Cincinnati Reds have struggled to break 0.500, it has not been at the fault of Nick Lodolo as the starting pitcher has been dominant since the start of the season. In his three starts, Lodolo is averaging less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched while generating an ERA of 0.96, a WHIP of 0.696, and a FIP of 3.16. His back end also gives him a high level of support as the Reds defense currently leads the league in Defensive Efficiency.
Every bit of his arm talent will be on full display on Tuesday night as he faces off against a Seattle Mariners offense who ranks below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Especially with their preseason NL MVP contender Julio Rodriguez struggling to make contact at a consistent rate as their leadoff man is currently averaging less than one Hit per game and a 0.210 Batting Average.
On the other side of the field, the Mariners Luis Castillo will also have the opportunity to get off to a hot start as he faces off against a Reds offense who ranks in the bottom half of the board in the same previously mentioned metrics. Even with his defense giving him little support with their underwhelming coverage, Castillo has still been able to neutralize opposing offenses with his own individual production as the Mariners pitcher averages a WHIP of 1.118 and a ERA of 2.12.

Atlanta’s Spencer Schwellenbach is making a strong case for being listed as one of the betting favorites for the NL Cy Young award as the Braves pitcher currently possesses the lowest ERA in the NL while generating a WHIP of 0.650. Even though he struggles to generate Strikeouts, Schwellenbach has only surrendered one Earned Run in his three starts while averaging less than one Hit Against per Inning Pitched.
Against Toronto, Schwellenbach will need to continue to put opposing batters in less than ideal contact scenarios as he faces off against a Blue Jays offense who ranks top six in Team Total Hits and On Base Percentage. Especially when their offense crumbles when they are not able to make contact at a high rate as their offense also ranks below league average in Total Runs Scored and in RBIs.
While Schwellenbach leads the league in ERA, Kevin Gausman possesses the lowest WHIP in the league as the Toronto pitcher averages just 0.621 batters on base per inning. Against Atlanta, Gausman will have the opportunity to sustain his low WHIP as the Braves offense struggles to make contact at a league average rate. Expect their lack of contact ability to lead to more Strikeouts, increasing Gausman’s chances of keeping a clean sheet in the first inning.

New York Mets vs. Minnesota Twins - Tylor Megill vs. Bailey Ober - Positive regression looms large over the New York Mets offense as their top of the order should get into scoring position early on in their contest against Minnesota as they face off against Bailey Ober who averages nearly two runners on base per Inning Pitched as his WHIP of 1.737 indicates.
Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers - Ryan Feltner vs. Landon Knack - Not only do the Los Angeles Dodgers possess more than enough talent to combat against Ryan Feltner, but the Colorado Rockies will also have the opportunity to match their level of production as they face off against Landon Knack who averages over one Hit Against per Inning Pitched and a WHIP of 2.077.
