Game one of the NL Wild Card Series kicks off on Tuesday with Tarik Skubal going up against Framber Valdez. Detroit ended the regular season at 86-76 tied for second place in the AL Central. Tarik Skubal has been the best pitcher in the American League and looks capable of carrying Detroit in October. 

Houston capped off its season by going 88-73 and winning the AL West by 3.5 games. The Astros had a great second half, as they did not start the season fast. With their power and experience, they will look to make another historic run. 

Tarik Skubal looks to capture the AL Cy Young award as he is the betting favorite. He ended the regular season going 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA. 

Skubal found most of his success with strikeouts, leading the league with 228 in 192 innings. We expect him to continue that dominance in the postseason, as he will have to be on point if the Tigers are going to advance. 

Framber Valdez was also very good this season posting a 15-7 record with an ERA of 2.91. He struck out 169 batters in 176.1 innings and had a 1.11 WHIP, the 16th best in baseball. 

Valdez will keep runs off the scoreboard and keep Houston in this game which is why we like this NRFI spot. On paper, this is one of the more favorable NRFI selections on Tuesday and we are taking full advantage of it for our betting.

Milwaukee will host the NL Wild Card Series as they won the NL Central with a 93-69 record. Freddy Peralta will get the ball for the Brewers, as he has been their ace in 2024. 

The Mets come into this contest on short rest. They just played a double-header against Atlanta yesterday to earn a postseason berth. They ended the season at 89-73, tied for second in the NL East. 

No one expected the Mets to perform this well in 2024, and now they have a chance to prove everyone wrong. 

Peralta posted a record of 11-9 with an ERA of 3.68 in 2024. He fanned 200 batters in 173.2 innings and had a WHIP of 1.21. The numbers are slightly average, but Peralta has kept this Brewers team in many games this season, and they expect him to do the same in October. 

The Mets are going with Luis Severino who went 11-7 with an ERA of 3.91 this season. He struck out 161 batters and posted a 1.24 WHIP. 

With these two starters on the mound, we expect a low-scoring affair, as the offenses will be challenged all day.
