We kick off Monday’s slate fading the Los Angeles Dodgers elite top of their order as they are in a position to struggle against the Seattle Mariners Bryan Woo and their top-ranked defense. Before that takes place, we turn our attention toward the matchup between the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros as both units are set to roll out a pair of productive pitchers.

While the Dodgers are considered a near lock to make the playoffs, the Mariners are currently witnessing their playoff hopes slip away as they fall down the standings. With the Kansas City Royals steadily growing their lead for the last wildcard spot, the Mariners' best chance of making the playoffs resides on them winning the AL West Division title.
Should they want to keep their dreams of playing in October alive, then they must continue to rely on their defense that ranks first overall in Defensive Efficiency and Team Total Pitching ERA. Bryan Woo has played a key part in their elite defensive marks as he has done a masterful job at limiting opposing offensive production, taking the mound with an ERA of 2.06, a WHIP of 0.848, and just 17 Earned Runs Allowed in 23 games played.
Every bit of Woo’s pitching production will be needed against the Dodgers as they continue to terrorize opposing pitchers by ranking near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. Especially after welcoming former MLB MVP Mookie Betts back into their lineup, receiving a major boost in production with his elite blend of power and contact ability in the top of their order.
As for the Mariners, their offense has been abysmal as they currently rank in the bottom five in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Their inability to generate offensive production bodes well for the Dodgers' Gavin Stone as he has struggled with keeping opposing runners off the bases and out of scoring position as his WHIP of 1.277 indicates. Expect a bounce-back performance from Stone, especially while surrounded by a defense that ranks second overall in Defensive Efficiency.

While the Mariners try to climb up the AL West standings, the Houston Astros are attempting to hold them off as the current leaders for the division title. Once looking like their year was a wash after getting off to a horrific start, the Astros have managed to climb out of their hole off the bats of an elite offense that ranks near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
The issue for the Astros heading into Monday’s contest is that their offense is poised to struggle against the Red Sox Tanner Houck. Houck has flirted with AL Cy Young award contention throughout the year, taking the mound with an ERA of 3.01 and an FIP of 3.28. His pitching metrics are even more impressive when you factor in the Red Sox underwhelming marks in fielding as they currently rank 24th in Defensive Efficiency.
On the other side of the field, the Astros newly acquired Yusei Kikuchi looks to continue his hot stretch of play against an elite Red Sox offense. While Kikuchi’s marks as a whole have underwhelmed by possessing an ERA of 4.49, a WHIP of 1.292, and FIP of 3.57, all three key areas have improved since getting traded to the Astros. Since playing for Houston, Kikuchi takes the mound with an ERA of 2.70, a WHIP of 0.960, and FIP of 2.93.
