This game features one of the most underrated pitching matchups of the weekend. On one side is Reds’ reliever Nick Martinez (6-5, 3.43 ERA, 1.11 WHIP). The veteran has made a few spot starts for the team this season and has been especially great of late. He threw five scoreless innings in a start last week and has allowed just one run since July 7.
Martinez will have his hands full tonight as he faces a very good Brewers lineup. However, the Brew Crew are going scoreless in the first inning in 72.8% of games. Given that the team owns a .194 batting average against Martinez, we expect another quiet first inning to play out tonight.
Milwaukee will turn to young Tobias Myers (6-5, 3.02 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) to take the mound tonight. The 26-year-old has been fantastic in his rookie campaign and has been especially great since June 1, posting an ERA of 1.98. He will be facing the Reds for the first time in his career tonight.
The Reds have some talented bats but have struggled to find consistency at the plate this season. They rank twenty-sixth in batting average and have the eighth most strikeouts in the league. We expect them to struggle against Myers’ nasty stuff the first time they see it tonight.

This is our favorite bet of the entire weekend. One reason is that it features two offenses that struggle to score in the first inning of games. The Mariners are going scoreless in 73.3% of first innings, while the Mets are doing so in 77.4%.
We also love this bet because of the impressive starting pitchers on the mound. On one side is veteran Sean Manaea (8-4, 3.30 ERA, 1.18 WHIP), who is enjoying the best season of his career. The lefty has been especially great lately, bringing a 15-inning scoreless streak into tonight’s start.
Manaea will have a favorable matchup against the Mariners tonight. Seattle ranks twenty-ninth in batting average and twenty-seventh in runs scored. They have been especially bad against lefties, posting a .212 batting average on the season.
The Mariners will have Logan Gilbert (6-8, 3.05 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) starting opposite Manaea tonight. The 27-year-old has evolved into one of the best pitchers in baseball, leading the league in WHIP while ranking eleventh in ERA and fifteenth in strikeouts.
The Mets have gotten far better at the plate as the season progresses, but they will have their hands full with Gilbert. They will be facing the ace for the first time this season. Combine that with the fact that opponents are hitting just .166 against Gilbert the first time they see him in a game, and you have a recipe for a quiet first inning.
