Our NRFI bets for Tuesday begin in Reds vs. Marlins. This game features Nick Lodolo for Cincinnati and Max Meyer of Miami. 

The Reds are 53-58 in last place in the NL Central while the Marlins are 42-70 in last place in the NL East. 

Lodolo comes into this matchup at 8-4 with an ERA of 3.99. He has struck out 100 batters in 97 innings and has a 1.15 WHIP. Lodolo is coming off a rough start against Chicago, but he has been good for the Reds in 2024. 

Meyer will pitch for Miami, and he is 2-1 with a 3.81 ERA. In 26 innings, he has struck out 24 batters and has a 1.08 WHIP. Meyer is coming off a seven-strikeout performance against Atlanta. 

Both offenses in this game rank in almost every category at the bottom of the league. Cincinnati is hitting .227 as a team, which is the third-worst in baseball. On the other hand, Miami is hitting .238, which ranks 21st in 2024. 

Jonathan India has the Reds' best batting average at .260, along with nine home runs and 41 RBIs. Outside of India and De La Cruz, this year, runs have been difficult to come by in Cincinnati. 

Jesus Sanchez leads the Marlins in average at .241 along with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. 

When a matchup includes two bad offenses, it’s a good idea to trust the starting pitchers and take the NRFI.

Our second NRFI features Dylan Cease and the Padres against Bailey Falter and the Pirates. San Diego is 61-52 in second place in the NL West. Pittsburgh is 56-55, trailing Milwaukee by six games in the NL Central. 

Cease comes into this game at 11-8 with an ERA of 3.42. He has fanned 174 batters in 2024, which is the most strikeouts by any pitcher in baseball this season. Cease has a 0.99 WHIP and is coming off a 5.2-inning performance, allowing one run against the Dodgers. 

Falter is 5-7 and has struck out 64 batters in 95.2 innings. He has a 3.95 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. In Falter’s last start, he allowed one run on six hits against Houston. 

The Padres have the best team batting average in 2024 at .264. Jurickson Profar leads the team in batting average, home runs, and RBIs. Manny Machado has put together a good season as well, hitting .272 with 17 home runs. 

Bryan Reynolds has posted a terrific season in Pittsburgh, hitting .289 with 19 home runs and 66 RBIs. Oneil Cruz has also contributed at the plate hitting 17 home runs. 

The total is eight, and we don’t believe the runs will come close to this line. Look for Cease and Falter to get the job done in the first inning to cash our second NRFI bet.
