The American League Cy Young Award front-runner, Tarik Skubal, takes the mound for the Tigers on Tuesday. Simeon Woods Richardson will throw for the Twins. Both of these pitchers are having great seasons, which is why we’re taking the NRFI in this game.
For our second NRFI, we’re focusing on a matchup between the Cardinals and Pirates. Kyle Gibson will start for St. Louis, and the Pirates are going with Mitch Keller.

Our first NRFI starts with an NL Central matchup between the Cardinals and Pirates. St. Louis is 43-40 in second place trailing Milwaukee by 6.5 games.
Pittsburgh is 40-43, trailing the Cardinals by three games. St. Louis is 7-3 in their last ten games, while Pittsburgh is 5-5 in this stretch.
The Cardinals are starting Kyle Gibson, who is 5-3 with a 3.70 ERA. He has fanned 77 batters in 87.2 innings. Gibson has been very impressive on the road in 2024, as he is 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA.
The Pirates are going with Mitch Keller, who is 9-4 and has a 3.20 ERA. He has 91 strikeouts in 98.1 innings and a 1.22 WHIP. In Keller’s last three starts, he has allowed seven earned runs in 18.2 innings and has only walked five batters.
Gibson should have no problem with the Pittsburgh offense, as they’re hitting .227 as a team, which ranks 27th in the league. Runs have been hard for the Pirates to come by in 2024.
The Cardinals are hitting .239 as a team, the 17th-best in the league. On June 13, Keller pitched six innings and allowed four runs against St. Louis.
With both offenses struggling in 2024, this is a perfect matchup for these starting pitchers. We expect Gibson and Keller to go deep into this game and slow these offenses down.

Our second NRFI is highlighted by Tarik Skubal and the Tigers against Simeon Woods Richardson and the Twins. Detroit is 38-46 in fourth place in the AL Central. Minnesota is in second place and trails Cleveland by six games.
Tarik Skubal, who is 9-3 with a 2.32 ERA, pitches for the Tigers. He is the betting favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award at +190 on FanDuel Sportsbook. He has struck out 112 batters in 97 innings, which is ninth most in the league.
The Twins are going with Simeon Woods Richardson, who is 3-1 with a 3.41 ERA. He has 56 strikeouts in 66 innings and a WHIP of 1.14. Richardson dominated the Tigers in his first start of the year, going six innings and allowing just one run on two hits.
Detroit is hitting .228 as a team, which is the fifth-worst mark this season. Outside of Riley Greene, the rest of the Tigers' offense has been struggling. Greene leads the team in average, home runs, and RBIs.
Minnesota has gotten most of its production from Carlos Correa, who is hitting .311. Ryan Jeffers has also had a great season, hitting 13 home runs while driving in 41 RBIs.
For NRFI bets, we try to avoid highly explosive offensive teams like the Twins, but Skubal is elite. Look for him and Richardson to dominate the offenses in this matchup to cash this NRFI bet.
