Best NRFI Bets Today: Phillies vs. Tigers (6:40 PM, EST)

The Phillies take on the Tigers in Detroit in a matchup featuring two of the best starting pitchers in 2024. Philadelphia is 51-26 with a seven-game lead in the NL East. Detroit is 36-41 in fourth place in the AL Central. 

The Phillies are currently -340 to win the division on FanDuel Sportsbook with Atlanta right behind them in the odds.  

The Tigers have some work to do if they want to get a playoff berth as they are currently +830 to make the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook. 

Philadelphia is starting Ranger Suarez in this matchup who is 10-1 with a 1.75 ERA. He has struck out 95 batters in 92.1 innings and has a WHIP of 0.89. In his last start against San Diego, he went 6 innings allowing just one run on six hits.

Detroit is going with Tarik Skubal who is 8-3 with a 2.50 ERA. He has 105 strikeouts in 90 innings which is eleventh most in the league. 

Both of these pitchers are the favorites to win the Cy Young award in their respective divisions.

For our second NRFI bet, we’re focusing on the Pirates and Reds. Pittsburgh is 37-40 in third place in the NL Central. Cincinnati is 36-41 trailing the Pirates by one game in the division. 

The Pirates are +2500 to win the NL Central, and the Reds are +1200 on FanDuel Sportsbook. Both teams must string together a couple of series wins to get back in this race before the All-Star break. 

Mitch Keller takes the mound for Pittsburgh, and he is 8-4 with a 3.11 ERA. He has 85 strikeouts in 92.2 innings with a 1.2 WHIP. His last start was against the Reds, where he went seven innings, allowing no runs on two hits. 

The Reds are going with Hunter Greene, who is 5-2 with a 3.35 ERA. He has struck out 98 batters in 88.2 innings and is coming off a dominant performance against Pittsburgh. He pitched 6.1 innings scoreless innings. 

Both pitchers are coming off great performances against the same offenses they will face in this game. Strikeout ability has been a big reason for these pitcher's success and we expect nothing to change in this matchup.

Both offenses are hitting .277 as a team in 2024 which ranks at the bottom of the league. The Pirates are hitting .148 in their last three games, as runs have been very hard to produce. 

We expect both offenses to struggle against these starting pitchers, as each team produced just two hits the last time they faced Suarez and Skubal.
