We start Wednesday’s slate of NRFIs targeting the first two games on the schedule as a pair of underwhelming offensive units are set to face off against productive arms. One of those arms includes current AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal as he takes the mound in an attempt to shut down the Braves offense. We then turn our sights towards the matchup between the Reds and Pirates as both offenses are poised to continue to struggle. For more information about the NRFI market and what factors into them being worth a wager, check out our breakdown of Daily No Run First Inning.

After targeting the matchup between the Tigers and Braves in our daily YRFI series on Tuesday, we follow it up by wagering on a NRFI as early offensive production should be tough to come by for both units heading into the contest. Especially with Tarik Skubal taking the mound for the Tigers defense, giving the already struggling Braves offense even more fits as one of the best pitchers in the league.
Skubal has made a serious case to win the AL Cy Young award as he takes the mound with an ERA of 2.20, a WHIP of 0.907, a FIP of 2.44, 98 Total Strikeouts, 62 Hits Allowed, and just 21 Earned Runs Against in 14 games played. His closest contender Corbin Burnes has steadily closed the gap on his lead, but Skubal now has a chance to win back the oddsmakers with a hot start against the Braves star studded offense.
Even with plenty of big names still at the top of the order post Ronald Acuna injury, the Braves offense have yet to shake off their cold stretch. Once ranked near the top of the board across most offensive metrics, the Braves have now dropped down to below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage. A shockingly bad level of play for a team that was labeled as a World Series contender.
On the other side of the field, it should be business as usual for Reynaldo Lopez and the Braves defense as they get the benefit of making quick work against one of the worst offenses in the league. Lopez has excelled at limiting opposing scoring production, taking the mound with an ERA of 1.69 and a WHIP of 1.038. Expect his hot start to continue against a Tigers offense who ranks near dead last across the same previously mentioned offensive metrics.

Shortly after the conclusion of our first NRFI, our next one gets underway when the Cincinnati Reds battle it out against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a NL Central divisional showdown. Both teams are currently in the middle of the pack in the NL Central division standings, yet both still have a chance to threaten the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot on the board with plenty of season left to be played.
Mitch Keller may not be the same level of dominant pitcher as his fellow teammates Paul Skenes and Jared Jones with a WHIP of 1.249, but he is certainly capable of limiting early scoring opportunities against a Reds offense who has underwhelmed at this point of the season. The Reds offense enter the contest ranked well below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
As for the Reds defense, they currently rank in the top half of the league in Defensive Efficiency and trot out Hunter Greene who possesses a WHIP of 1.178, a FIP of 3.93, 89 Strikeouts, and just 60 Total Hits Allowed. It’s worth noting that he does struggle with his command as he possesses a high Walk Rate, but we may see him get more aggressive inside the zone against a Pirates offense who lacks any sort of production.
