We kick off our Friday night by backing two NRFIs with one including a highly anticipated matchup between the current AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and the Houston Astros elite top of their batting order. We then turn our sights towards the matchup between the Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins as both offenses are poised to continue to struggle against two productive arms. For more information about the NRFI market and what factors into them being worth a wager, check out our breakdown of Daily No Run First Inning.
When looking to make a wager on a NRFI, it’s important to have as many sportsbooks as you can get in order to line shop the very volatile market. Each sportsbook also has their own unique signup bonus, giving new users a boost to their bankroll to wager with during the MLB season. Normally a consistent team to back for our daily YRFI series, the Houston Astros make a rare appearance in our NRFI column as their elite top of batting order may be neutralized against the Tigers Tarik Skubal. Skubal is the current favorite for the AL Cy Young award, and has managed to increase his lead against his closest contender Corbin Burnes for the top spot on the oddsboard after a few dominant performances.
Skubal has been one of the lone bright spots for a Tigers team who has severely underwhelmed at this point of the season, currently sitting in fourth place on the AL Central standings. Even against the Astros, offensive production should be tough to come by for Houston as Skubal takes the mound with an ERA of 1.92, a WHIP of 0.891, 96 Strikeouts, 56 Hits Allowed, and just 17 Earned Runs Against in 13 games played.
Every bit of Skubal’s production will be called upon against an Astros offense that currently ranks near the top of the board in Team Total Hits, On Base Percentage, RBIs, and Total Runs Scored. A majority of their success stems from the top of their order, a unit that features elite contact hitter Jose Altuve, surging AL MVP contender Kyle Tucker, all around slugger Alex Bregman, and the always dangerous Yordan Alvaerz.
As for the Tigers, they find themselves on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of offensive production as they rank near dead last across the board in the same previously mentioned key metrics. That bodes well for the Astros Hunter Brown as he has struggled with keeping opposing runners off the bases at this point of the season. Brown enters the contest with an ERA of 5.58 and a horrific WHIP of 1.516.

At the same time as our previously mentioned NRFI, our next one gets underway when the Oakland Athletics battle it out against the Minnesota Twins. After a hot start to their year, the Athletics are finally starting to mirror their preseason projections as they rack up the losses. As for the Twins, they entered the year as a favorite to win the AL Central division title but are currently in third place in the standings.
A big reason for the Twins underwhelming start to their year stems from their offense as they enter the contest ranked well below league average in Team Total Hits and On Base Percentage, and in the middle of the pack in RBIs and Runs Scored. That bodes well for the Athletics rotational pitcher Mitch Spence who makes his sixth appearance as a starter this season. Spence takes the mound for the Athletics with an ERA of 3.89 and a WHIP of 1.149.
As for the Athletics, their offense has fared even worse as they are farther down the board in the same previously mentioned offensive metrics. Their struggles are now poised to continue against the Twins Simeon Woods Richardson who has had a productive start to his season. Simeon takes the mound with an ERA of 2.84, a WHIP of 1.086, 44 Total Hits Allowed, and 16 Earned Runs Against in 10 games played.
