Friday’s slate brings a full helping of games and plenty of NRFIs to choose from, yet two NRFIs stand above the rest for us to wager on to kickstart our weekend. We start our day fading two anemic offenses with the Detroit Tigers battling it out against the Toronto Blue Jays and then end our day with a pitchers duel against two productive hitting units when Carlos Rodon faces off against Yu Darvish. For more information about the NRFI market and what factors into them being worth a wager, read our breakdown of Daily No Run First Inning.
When making a wager on a NRFI, it’s important to have as many sportsbooks as you can get in order to line shop for the volatile market. Each sportsbook has their own unique signup bonus, giving new users a head start to their bankroll to bet with during the middle of the MLB season. FanDuel sportsbook for example is giving new users $150 in bonus bets for simply creating an account and winning their first bet of at least $5 wagered. Be sure to wager the $5 on a heavy favorite immediately after signing up, maximizing your chances of winning and collecting the $150 in bonus bets.

Earlier Thursday, this game was not on my radar as the Toronto Blue Jays initially had Kevin Gausman listed as their pitcher. Gausman has been a popular fade target in our daily YRFI series as his preseason injury has clearly lingered into the regular season. With Manoah now slotted in as the pitcher, we are taking the NRFI as this contest should feature limited offensive production.
Manoah has been dominant to start his 2024 campaign, coming into the contest against Detroit with an ERA of 3.00 and a WHIP of 0.944 in three games played so far this season. He is in a great position to continue his hot stretch of play against a weak Detroit Tigers offense, a unit that ranks below league average in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Speaking of struggling offenses, it’s been a rough year for the Toronto Blue Jays unit as they have continued to underwhelm at this point of the season. An oddity for a unit that boasts star power like George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr at the top of their order, but their struggles have resulted in them placed dead last in the AL East standings. The Blue Jays enter the contest near dead last in the league in Team Total Hits, Runs Scored, and RBIs.
That bodes well for the Tigers young pitcher Matt Manning as he looks to round back into form after a shaky start to his season. Manning comes into the contest with an ERA of 4.88, a WHIP in five games played. With Bichette and Springer being moved down the lineup, Manning is in a great position to succeed right away against a thinned out Blue Jays top of their order.

While our first NRFI of the day targets two underwhelming offenses, our next one involves two above average offenses that may be neutralized against two productive pitchers. Both Carlos Rodon and Yu Darvish will need to bring their high level of play that we have seen so far this season as both offenses rank top-8 in Team Total Hits, RBIs, Total Runs Scored, and On Base Percentage.
Starting with Yu Darvish, his production has been more crucial than ever after letting former Cy Young winner Blake Snell walk in free agency. Darvish has continued to produce since Snell’s departure, clocking in an ERA of 2.08, a WHIP of 0.902, 46 Total Strikeouts, just 30 Hits Allowed, and 11 Earned Runs Against in nine games played. His low WHIP is especially inviting as it’s crucial to minimize the number of runners on base before Judge gets up to bat.
As for the Yankees, they trot out Carlos Rodon who has managed to turn around his season after a rollercoaster of a start. Once a fade target for our YRFI series, now fading him to shut down a lethal Padres offense that features league leading hits contender Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr. Rodon can potentially do just that, coming into the contest with an ERA of 3.27 and a WHIP of 1.200 in 10 games played.
