Another long list of games are set to be played tonight that will generate an impact in all fields, including the betting fields. One of the biggest bets to go for is the NRFI bet, which is the no-run in the first-inning bet.
As the season has progressed, the lines for several of these matchups have risen, thus making the winning less significant. There are still games that have great value in the NRFI that can give casual fans and bettors their fill. One of the easiest bets will be the AL battle between the Minnesota Twins at the Toronto Blue Jays.
One game that has incredibly high risks, but great winning potential is the second game of the series between the Kansas City Royals at the Los Angeles Angels. The Royals will have a great pitching matchup, but the same couldn’t be said for the Angels. That being said, if the Angels hold the Royals scoreless through the first inning as well, then the reward is great.
This Friday night starts a highly anticipated AL battle as the Minnesota Twins (22-15) go on the road for a three-game series to take on the Toronto Blue Jays (17-20). The Twins have clawed their way back to nearly the top of the AL Central as they have won 15 of the last 17 games. The Blue Jays have been inconsistent in series since the start of the season despite the stars. Toronto has lost 10 of the last 14 games.
This is a game that should have great pitching matchups to start the game which should be a huge benefit towards the NRFI bet. The Twins are coming off a dominating 11-1 win over the Seattle Mariners at home on Thursday. In that game, the Twins came out with five runs in the first period. Minnesota might take a slow start in today’s game, especially in a new series.
If the Twins feel confident they can continue their impressive start in the first inning, the Blue Jays are just as confident in the pitching capabilities of left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to hold them from scoring early.
In seven games played, Kikuchi has accounted for a season ERA of 2.72 where he has allowed 12 total runs. He has only game where he allowed a run in the first inning with that win being the Blue Jays’ 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 27.
Kikuchi has been one of the league’s most successful early pitchers. He will take on a Twins’ offense, despite accounting for five runs in the first inning against Seattle, ranks 16th in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.49).
The Twins will be starting one of their most reliable veteran pitchers in Joe Ryan to start the series against the Blue Jays. He hasn’t been as efficient to start the season like he has in the past few seasons. In seven games played, Ryan has accounted for a season ERA of 3.54 where he has also given up 19 total runs. There are three games this season where he has allowed a run in the first inning with all being AL Central Divisional opponents.
Ryan will have a chance to start off a game on the right note against the Blue Jays, who are ranked 15th in the league in the first inning (0.51).
Bet on Under 0.5 Runs (-130) at DraftKings
One game that has the best betting lines for the under 0.5 runs in the first inning is the matchup between the Kansas City Royals (23-16) at the Los Angeles Angels (14-24). Tonight’s game will be the second matchup of the series with the first played on Thursday night. The Royals defeated the Angels in game one with a 10-4 score as Kansas City started the game off on a 9-0 run starting in the third period and going all the way to the seventh.
The Royals have turned their franchise around after a serious rebuilding year last season. The Angels are hitting hard times after the loss of pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and the major injury to outfielder Mike Trout.
The pitching matchups in this game should create another scoreless run through the first inning, like Thursday’s night game.
Kansas City will be starting Alec Marsh, who is coming off the 15-Day IL on Friday against the Angels after an elbow injury. In five games played this season, Marsh has accounted for a season ERA of 2.70 and allowed only eight runs.
Marsh has only had one game where he has allowed a run in the first inning. That game was the Royals’ 11-7 win over the New York Mets where he allowed three runs in the first inning. He should have an easy task ahead of him in the first inning as the Angels rank 19th in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.45).
The biggest gamble in this bet will be trusting the Angels, specifically Griffin Canning, to hold a rejuvenated Royals team from scoring early. In seven games played, Canning has accounted for a season ERA of 6.69 and has allowed 27 runs. When it rains, it pours for Canning. He has allowed four games this season where the opposing team has scored in the first inning. Canning has allowed 11 runs in the first inning against highly efficient offenses like the Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Kansas City ranks fifth in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.69). If Canning can hold the Royals in the first inning then the bet will be worth the risk.
