There have been several big surprises in just one series from all 30 teams to start the season. While it is not a surprise to see the Miami Marlins (0-4) struggle, the winless streak through all four games is the biggest draw. It is not surprising to see the Los Angeles Angels (1-2) struggle at all, as if they can maintain any success without Shohei Ohtani.
The Angels have claimed one game in the three-game road series versus the Baltimore Orioles. In that series, the Angels scored twice in the first inning. They are a team that has managed to be successful in accounting for runs in the first inning last season. This season, there is not a lot they can do the same.
The Marlins, on the other hand, were swept in the four-game series at home to the Pittsburgh Pirates. They were unable to score in the first inning in any of the games versus the Pirates.
The Marlins will host the Angels in game one of the three-game series on Monday. Miami will start Max Meyer at the mound against the Angels. Meyer played in two games in 2022 before having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. There has been a lot more training, development and rehab for him after a rough start to his professional career.
Chase Silseth (3.96 ERA) had the second-lowest ERA below 4.00 among all starting pitchers who pitched more than 50 innings for the Angels last season, only behind Ohtani. There is more hope for Silseth (23 years old) to be one of the more effective pitchers in the league for Los Angeles. He should get a great start to the season with the Marlins up first.

It might be surprising to see the Detroit Tigers undefeatede through three games into the season. Considering the fact that the games were at the Chicago White Sox, it shouldn’t be a surprise.
The only time that the Tigers accounted for runs In the first inning was in game two when Detroit won 7-6.
It should also be no surprise that the New York Mets continue to start off the season on a terrible note. The Mets were sweat by the Milwaukee Brewers in their three game series. In each of the three games, the Mets were not able to score within the first inning.
This continues a similar trend from last year where the Mets were right last in the league in runs account for in the first inning. Don't expect much to change with the Mets or the Tigers, who are playing a much more efficient team than the White Sox.
