The series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds had been highlighted by the addition of Reds rookie infielder Elly De La Cruz. In his first game against the Dodgers on Tuesday, he accounted for a double-base hit, two walks and a run. The following day, he accounted for two runs including his first major league home run that went 458 feet, two hits and two RBIs.
Cruz could finish up his first major league series with another stellar performance against the Dodgers. Los Angeles has not been able to keep up with the revitalization of the Reds at the plate.
Clayton Kershaw (3.25 ERA in 69.1 innings) is expected to start at the mound on Thursday against the Reds. It will not be easy to get another solid-hitting performance from the Reds for a third consecutive day. Cruz, however, is hot at the plate and he is showing why he is the future for the Reds. He will look to get his teammates home and help potentially seep the Dodgers.
The Colorado Rockies are looking to avoid getting swept in the three-game road series versus the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. The pitcher matchup is set to be a unique battle between the Giants’ starting pitcher Alex Cobb and the Rockies’ aged, but effective veteran Chase Anderson.
There is no doubt that Cobb could have a big game and hold the Rockies to limited scoring on Thursday. The real area to watch for is if Anderson can create some trouble for the Giants.
In the first game on Tuesday, the Giants struck out 16 times at the plate in their 10-4 win over the Rockies. While Colorado has encountered several different pitching rotations in both games, their starting pitchers have an ERA that is much lower than Anderson’s ERA at 2.08 in 21.2 innings pitched.
It does help Anderson’s case that the Giants have struck out the second most of any team this season at 599 through 60 games.
Placing bets on home runs is one of the riskiest bets to make. When they do happen, the earnings are significant. The matchup between the Houston Astros at the Toronto Blue Jays is projected to be an active batting and high-scoring game.
If there is one player that could find a home run in this matchup, it would be Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez. Through 55 games this season, Alvarez leads Houston with 16 home runs accounted. The next highest players in home runs accounted for rightfielder Kyle Tucker, shortstop Jeremy Pena and third baseman Alex Bergman with eight.
It will be a challenge for Alvarez to hit home runs off Toronto’s starting pitcher Jose Berrios (3.66 ERA in 71.1 innings), who has only given up seven home runs this season. Alvarez is also likely to account for a homer when Berrios is subbed out.
One of the biggest values of the day is set to be between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. There are set to be big earnings for betters that place a bet at Braves star second baseman Ozzie Albies to account for one hit at the plate in the final game of the series against the Cubs.
Albies has accounted for one hit each in the previous two games against the Cubs. He is third on the team in hits accounted for with 59. Albies is a player that has been consistent at getting on base and getting teammates to score this season.
The Mets are set to start Justin Verlander (4.25 ERA in 36 innings) on Thursday against the Braves. Verlander has allowed 32 hits this season in his six games played. Albies accounting for a hit is going to be highly likely.
Thursday is set to be a tough matchup for both the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Angels. The Cubs are looking to avoid getting swept by the Angels in the three-game road series. One key to the game the Cubs can do is to limit the batting of the Angels.
The Angels are ranked 19th in strikeouts accounted for this season (539) as they are a power-hitting team that tries to get the big hits from their two stars and several role players. In the two previous games, the Cubs were able to force the Angels to strike out at the plate ten times each.
Chicago is a prominent pitching team with reliable pitchers, including Drew Smyly (3.56 ERA in 65.2 innings). Smyly is likely going to have a solid performance against the Angels’ batting team that is too inconsistent.
