MLB Player Props June 14

Atlanta Braves vs Detroit Tigers (Game 1)

My Pick: Spencer Strider to record a win (-140 at PointsBet)

The first MLB prop bet worth firing on on Wednesday is for Spencer Strider of the Atlanta Braves to record the win against the Detroit Tigers in the first game of their double-header. Strider was scheduled to start on Tuesday night before inclement weather pushed that game back to this afternoon. But no matter what time the game is being played, expect Strider to come away with the win in it.

This season, Strider has put together a great year for the Atlanta Braves, as he is the current favorite to win the NL Cy Young award. He is 6-2 with an ERA of 3.79, and his numbers have a great chance to improve in this contest, as he pitches against a Tigers team that has scored the fewest runs in baseball so far this season.

Detroit’s offensive struggles are well-documented, as they are the only team in baseball that has fewer than 250 runs scored as a team in 2023. They are one of just five teams this season to fail to hit 60 home runs as a team. Their collective lack of power will only serve to help Strider get into the win column for the second time in the month of June and for his third straight winning decision.

Tampa Bay Rays vs Oakland Athletics

My Pick: Tyler Glasnow under 8.5 strikeouts (-120 at DraftKings)

So far this season, Tyler Glasnow has pitched just three times, racking up a total of 15.2 innings of work so far in 2023. In his injury-shortened campaign, he has struck out a total of 20 batters, never reaching more than eight strikeouts in a game so far. Here, we expect Glasnow to stay under the 8.5 strikeout mark for the fourth straight time on the year.

It is understandable for Glasnow’s strikeout prop total to be as high as it is going into this game against the Oakland Athletics. The A’s are tied for the fourth-most strikeouts in baseball as a team heading into Wednesday’s MLB slate. They are also tied for 28th in runs scored this season. But the A’s have been playing better baseball of late and could make it tough for Glasnow to rack up the strikeouts.

Oakland has won seven games in a row heading into Wednesday’s action, including last night’s reverse boycott game at home. They are clearly the team with all of the momentum coming into this Rays vs A’s contest, and they will continue to battle at the plate to keep Glasnow under his strikeout total.

New York Yankees vs New York Mets

My Pick: Gerrit Cole 6+ Strikeouts and Yankees to Win (+155 at FanDuel)

The final MLB prop bet on our card for Wednesday comes from the Subway Series matchup between the New York Yankees and New York Mets. There, we get an incredible pitching matchup on paper between Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander. From a prop perspective, look for Gerrit Cole to strike out at least six Mets, and for the Yankees to come away with the win at Citi Field.

Cole is 7-1 so far this season for the Yankees, and he has struck out at least six batters in three of his last five starts. The two times he failed to reach six strikeouts during that stretch came against two of the best offenses in baseball in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles. Here, he faces a far less consistent Mets offense, and should be able to rack up the strikeouts without too many problems.

As for the result of this game itself, look for the Yankees to prolong the misery of the Mets with Justin Verlander on the mound. Verlander is 2-3 so far in games where he has picked up the decision, but the Mets are just 2-5 overall in games that he has started. Look for Cole to be the superior pitcher here and for the Yankees to win to cash this plus money prop ticket.
