The Los Angeles Angels (52-49) and star two-way player Shohei Ohtani have been at the center of the MLB for the past few days. Ohtani is a player that can grab a huge trade package for the Angels before the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline, but the Angels want to make one more attempt at a playoff run.
The Angels will have Ohtani start as a pitcher in the first game of a doubleheader hosted by the Detroit Tigers (46-55). The best player prop regarding Ohtani will come to his performance at the plate, instead.
A better can earn significant winnings by trusting in the solid batting abilities of Ohtani, who just needs one hit. These past few games have been tough for Ohtani at the plate, but he has accounted for a hit in 70-of-the-99 games played this season.
Ohtani's ability to account for hits isn't limited by the double duty he has pulled as the starting pitcher. In the 7-5 loss to the Houston Astros on July 14, when Ohtani was the starting pitcher, he accounted for two hits.
The bottom two teams in the NL East between the New York Mets (47-54) and the Washington Nationals (43-59) kick off a new series in New York. It might be too late for either team to start a playoff run as they are too far back in the NL East standings.
The Mets have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league when it comes to meeting expectations with their talented roster. New York ranks 10th in the NL in runs accounted for (448), 14th in hits accounted for (792), 12th in batting average (.237), and 12th in on-base percentage (.317). They are also third in the NL in the fewest strikeouts accounted for (805).
The Nationals have not been a reliable pitching team at all this season, but there have been bright spots. One of those bright spots is starting pitcher Josiah Gray (3.45 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched), who has the highest ERA among the team's starting pitchers.
His best game this season was against the New York Mets on April 25 when he delivered nine strikeouts while only allowing four hits. The Nationals defeated the Mets 5-0.
One of the more interesting games on Thursday is the St. Louis Cardinals (46-57) hosting their divisional rival in the Chicago Cubs (50-51) in the start of a four-game series. This is a series that could have major implications for the NL Central as the Cubs are still in the chase for the divisional title.
The Cardinals could have a tough time at the plate on Thursday as they have to face off against one of the most reliable starting pitchers in Justin Steele (2.95 ERA in 103.2 innings pitched). In the 18 games he has started, he has allowed 94 hits.
The Cardinals, despite being a disappointment this season, are ranked sixth in runs accounted for (494), third in hits accounted for (910), fourth in batting average (.258), and third in on-base percentage (.333).
One player that is set to help bettors make some significant earnings is Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado. In 98 games played, Arenado has accounted for 109 hits this season, the second-most on the team. In 98 of those games, Arenado has accounted for a hit in 70 of those games.
The Chicago White Sox (41-62) are set to host a new game-game series against AL Central Rival Cleveland Guardians (51-51). The Guardians desperately need to take advantage of some of their weaker opponents as they attempt to steal the division from the Minnesota Twins.
First, the Guardians will have to go through the White Sox's efficient starting pitcher in Dylan Cease (4.04 ERA in 119.2). In his 21 games played, Cease has allowed more than seven hits three times this season. He has ten games where he has allowed five or more hits.
The Guardians are one of the most patient and easy batting teams as they don't rely on power-hitting. Cleveland is ranked fifth in the AL in hits accounted for (883) and sixth in batting average (.253), but 12th in runs accounted for (428). Cease may have a solid opportunity to hold the Guardians from scoring, but probably not accounting for hits.
