The Boston Red Sox are in a must-win series against the Washington Nationals if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Red Sox have seven games against the Astros in the next two weeks, along with three games against the Dodgers.
Boston is three games back in the Wild Card race, so every win matters if they want to play meaningful October baseball.
Nick Pivetta will take the ball on Tuesday, and he has been one of the best wings for Boston. In the past 30 days, his opponent's batting average is just .180. He has a 2.54 ERA and has recorded 39 strikeouts in 28.1 innings.
The strikeout numbers have been inconsistent for Pivetta this season, but props are best to bet off of recent hot streaks. There haven’t been many pitchers as good as Pivetta in the strikeout department over the past month, and this is why we’re leaning toward this market.
His total is listed at 5.5, and the over is plus money. The Nationals are one of the best teams in baseball in the strikeout department.
They don’t chase a lot, and they put the ball in play. However, the way Pivetta has pitched as of late gives us confidence he will deliver on the road.
We’re staying in the Red Sox vs. Nationals game for our second prop of the night. As we mentioned, the Boston Red Sox are in a must-win situation, so we should see some big hits. Additionally, Boston had a day off on Monday, which benefits hitters as they get to rest.
The batter with the biggest upside for the Red Sox is Rafael Devers. He hasn’t been great this season, but he has come up big in multiple spots, and we like this to occur on Tuesday. Devers is batting .265 on the season with 26 homers and 79 RBI.
Devers contributes to the offense in multiple ways, and that’s why we’re taking the over on his Hits + Runs + RBI. He has only gone over this total once in his past five games, but he can hit it on one swing.
Devers has been hot in the past 30 days with a .293/.363/.512 slash line. He will face Josiah Gray, who is 7-9 with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has been much worse at home this season, with a 5.17 ERA.
In his past 8.1 innings, he has allowed nine earned runs with five walks. There will be plenty of chances for Devers to pad his stats on Tuesday.
Corey Seager has consistently been one of the best hitters in baseball all season. He has only played in 75 games because of some injuries, so the hype isn’t massive around the All-Star. However, it should be as his numbers are outstanding.
Seager is batting .348 with a .407 OBP and a 1.056 OPS. He also has 20 homers and 68 RBI this season and has made his presence felt in nearly every game. Seager has batted at least .290 in every month of the season.
Seager’s Hits + Runs + RBI prop is set at 1.5, and the over is -130. He has hit this total in four of his past six games, and we like him to succeed once again. Seager will face Lucas Giolito on Tuesday night, who hasn’t been pitching great this season.
Giolito is 7-8 with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Yet, in the past 30 days, opponents are batting .305 off him, and he has allowed 23 earned runs in five starts. This comes out to an 8.75 ERA.
We expect the Rangers to get to Giolito, and there should be plenty of chances for Seager to deliver. Take the over on his prop total.
