Our first prop bet of the day will come from the Kansas City Royals-Minnesota Twins matchup. This will be one of the less exciting games of the day.
These teams may be in the same division, but they are heading in two different directions. The Royals are rebuilding and one of baseball’s worst teams, and the Twins are hot and in first place in their division. The Twins’ Pablo Lopez will be the subject of this prop. Lopez played in his first full season last year and put on a good showing for the Miami Marlins. He went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA and was traded to the Twins in the offseason (along with a few others) for Luis Arraez.
Lopez has had an impressive start to the season and will strike out seven or more batters in this game. Bet on the over.
Lopez has been throwing a lot of strikeouts this season. The southpaw is averaging 7.75 strikeouts per start this season. In his previous outing against the Washington Nationals, he only threw four innings and gave up five runs but struck out six. Lopez will be facing a Royals team that has only scored one run in their last two games, so it is safe to say the 27-year-old will throw more than five innings. In addition, the Royals average over eight strikeouts a game, so the Venezuela native will have plenty of opportunities to throw K’s. Bet on the over.
We are on to our only batter prop of the day. This prop will come from the Baltimore Orioles-Detroit Tigers game. The Tigers are struggling to start the season, and the Orioles are thriving, so Baltimore has a huge advantage heading into this game. This prop will involve the Tigers’ Akil Baddoo. Baddoo has been pretty quiet this season but will have a hit in this game. Bet on the over.
Baddill is coming off a two-hit game against the Milwaukee Brewers. I realize that two-hit games happen all the time, but it could mean that he is turning a corner at the plate. He will face the Orioles’ Grayson Rodriguez on the mound today. Rodriguez is a rookie and is yet to earn his first career win. He is coming off a strong start but has had mixed results in his four starts this season. I expect him to have a mediocre outing, leaving Baddoo with opportunities to get a hit. Bet on the over.
The rest of our props will be pitcher props. This prop will come from one of the more exciting games of the day. The Cubs are off to a better start than expected, and the Marlins have maintained their status as one of the league’s most exciting teams this season. We will look at Marcus Stroman for this prop. Stroman had a pretty good season last year but not an amazing one. He had a losing record and a 3.50 ERA.
However, he has been dominant to start this season. Stroman gave up five earned runs in his last start to the Los Angeles Dodgers but had only thrown two earned in his four starts before that. He is also pitching pretty deep into games. Stroman will throw six innings or more in this matchup. Bet on the over.
Stroman threw six innings in his first four starts and five innings in his last start. The Cubs are letting him throw around 100 pitches a start, which is reasonable in 2023. He will face a Miami Marlins teams that is not too impressive at the plate today. The Marlins score less than 3.3 runs per game and have lost four of their last five. They will not have a lot of success against Stroman, so he will throw six innings or more. Bet on the over.
We will go to Arlington, Texas, for our fourth prop of the day. Jacob deGrom will be the subject of this prop. deGrom has the opportunity to throw his first full season since 2019 and is off to a good start. With that being said, he will not throw 19 or more outs. Bet on the under.
deGrom has only thrown more than six innings once this year, and it was against the struggling Royals. The righty will be facing a much tougher team in the Yankees today. The Yankees lineup has been underperforming, but any lineup with Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo is dangerous. deGrom will still throw a decent game, but it is unreasonable to expect him to pitch into the seventh inning. Bet on the under.
We will stay in Texas for our final prop bet of the day. This game will be exciting, as both of these teams have strong lineups. We will look at the Phillies’ Aaron Nola for this prop. Nola had arguably his best season last year but has been unable to push that success into this year. He will improve with time but is off to a poor start. The Louisiana native will allow six or more hits today. Bet on the over.
Nola has given up five hits or less in his previous two starts, but those games were against the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds. In his starts against the Miami Marlins and New York Yankees, he gave up nine and seven hits, respectively. Nola is having much more trouble against good teams and will face a good team in the Houston Astros. The Astros have won six of their last seven games and have been on a scoring tear. They are hitting the ball well and will have at least six hits off Nola. Bet on the over.
