The Los Angeles Angels need to get on a solid win streak now if they want to be relevant by the time July starts. Luckily, on Thursday the Angels will host the Oakland Athletics and will have star pitcher Shohei Ohtani starting at the mound for the Angels.
In 28 innings this season, Ohtani has accounted for a season ERA of 0.64 while delivering 38 strikeouts. Ohtani has delivered eight or more strikeouts in three of his five games played this season.
The Angels have stuck out 226 times this season, which is the 14th most of all teams in the AL. Ohtani could deliver his season-high 11 strikeouts or even more against a bad batting team of Oakland.
This should be a pretty solid bet to make considering much isn’t being asked of the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman. Goldschmidt leads the Cardinals in hits accounted for this season at 29.
This Thursday will be a great opportunity for him to account for a solid batting game against a Giants pitching crew that has not found its stride yet. The Giants’ pitching team is ranked 10th in hits allowed this season (216), which is 10th in the NL.
Giants’ pitcher Logan Webb is among the pitchers for San Francisco that as struggled this season as he has allowed 31 hits.
Tampa Bay Rays’ starting pitcher Shane McClanahan is turning into one of the MLB’s most reliable and consistent pitchers before out very eyes. In 29 innings and five games played, McClanahan has accounted for a season ERA of 1.86 while delivering 37 strikeouts.
In of the five games for the Rays, McClanahan has delivered at least six strikeouts. The most strikeouts he has delivered is 10 in the 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on April 22.
This could be another statement game for McClanahan to make against the White Sox and remain as an elite pitcher in the league.
It has been an over-odds picking because the opportunities are there and the demands for the players are not as high. For the Kansas City Royals, they have been one of the worst teams in the MLB, but they have a chance to get a big win over their divisional rival Minnesota Twins, who leads the AL Central.
Zack Greinke is projected to be the starting pitcher for the Royals and is tasked of delivering more than three strikeouts. He has thrown more than three strikeouts in three of the five games he has played this season.
The biggest key of this bet is that the Twins, who are an okay batting team, is ranked last in strikeouts this season at 235. They have struck out ten more times than the Royals have this season. That should be alarming for Minnesota.
The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers start a brand new thrilling series on Thursday between two solid AL teams. The Yankees will be starting their ace pitcher Gerrit Cole, which will require some focused batting at the plate for the Rangers.
The Rangers will need to get on base early and often to account for solid runs against a great pitching and fielding team of New York. In comes right-fielder Adolis Gargia, who leads the Rangers in RBIs accounting for (29) and has accounted for 24 hits.
Garcia is a player that can get the wheels turning for the Rangers’ offense to take a lead over the Yankees. If there is one player that can assist in getting teammates home for a run against the Yankees, it will be Garcia.
