It’s always a good idea to find who the Athletics are playing and bet against the franchise in multiple ways. Oakland is closer to a Triple-A team than a big league roster, and opposing franchises typically perform well against the green and gold. The same goes for props of players who are facing the Athletics.
The Cubs will face the A’s on Tuesday, and Ken Waldichuk will throw for Oakland. He is 0-2 with a 10.2 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP. He has allowed 22 hits in 15 innings of work. This is the ideal matchup for Patrick Wisdom, who has been very hot at the plate. Wisdom is batting .288 with a league-leading eight homers. He’s also third in OPS at 1.139.
Wisdom has gone over this total in four of his past five games, and we don’t see him stopping tonight. He blasted two homers in the series opener, so look for the third baseman to stay hot at the dish.
Josiah Gray was a highly touted pitcher in the Dodgers organization before being traded to the Washington Nationals. Gray is one of the better pitchers for Washington, but he still hasn’t found his stride in the big leagues. The pitcher is only 25 years old, so he still has time to develop, and we expect him to continue improving.
After what Gray has shown us this season, we think it’s best to take his strikeout prop tonight against the Orioles. The pitcher’s total is set at 4.5, and he has recorded 13 on the season in 16.2 innings. In three starts, he has only gone over this total once. However, the Nationals should let him go slightly longer than usual tonight if he can locate against Baltimore.
The Orioles are famous for their homer celebrations but tend to strike out consistently. Baltimore is still a young lineup, where approaches can often go out the window. We’re going to trust the youngster in this position.
Randy Arozarena is one of the best players on the Rays and has shown it consistently this season. The outfielder is hitting the cover of the ball, and this is combined with elite speed on the bases. Arozarena is batting .306 with 17 RBI and three homers in 2023. He is a tremendous hitter and is protected in this Rays lineup, where there are very few easy outs.
Tampa Bay will face the Reds, and they’re coming off getting dominated in the opener. We trust good teams to bounce back, and Arozarena will be a big part of the Rays offensive onslaught on Tuesday. Cincinnati will face Nick Lodolo, who is 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP.
Lodolo has allowed 18 hits in 17 innings, but he does have good strikeout ability. Arozarena’s base prop is set at over 1.5 for plus money. If Lodolo makes a mistake, we trust Arozarena to capitalize and go over his base prop on Tuesday.
Triston Casas’ total base prop is set at over 0.5 for -150. This price is only listed for Casas because he is a rookie. As the former top prospect continues to develop, this price will open at -180 because he is explosive at the plate. Casas has struggled at times in the first few weeks, but the signs of power hitting have shown periodically.
Casas is hitting just .146 thus far, but he has gone over his base prop in two straight games. This momentum gives us confidence he can keep the hitting streak alive on Tuesday. He’ll face Sonny Gray, who has been fantastic this season, but Casas’ momentum is the reason to take the youngster in this spot.
