Best MLB Prop Bets Today 2024 08 23

We began the week Monday by focusing on five pitchers. That went well, so we decided to close the week in the same fashion. For Friday, all five of our prop bets are pitchers. Of course, we’re not backing all of them to succeed, but it’s a pitching-heavy set of picks nonetheless.

The odds for all five picks are from Caesars Sportsbook, which is giving new users a bonus bet of up to $1,000 if they lose their first wager.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Angels vs. Blue Jays (7:07 PM, EST)

Chris Bassitt Under 1.5 ER (+123) at Caesars

It’s been a long time since Bassitt gave up one run or less in a start. You’d have to go back to the end of July, as it’s been a long couple of months for the veteran. However, we’ve gotten into the habit of favoring pitchers who are facing the Angels. The Halos have been held to three runs or less in eight of their last nine games, including a shutout loss just two days ago. In a game that’s relatively meaningless for both teams, Bassitt should be able to get himself back on track.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Cubs vs. Marlins (7:10 PM, EST)

Max Meyer Over 2.5 ER (+102) at Caesars

Out of necessity, Meyer was recalled to the big leagues in late July and has been getting shelled ever since. In fact, he’s allowed at least three runs in all five of his starts since then, so this pick feels like a no-brainer, especially with plus odds. The obvious caveat is that the Cubs have been a subpar offensive team lately, giving Meyer a fighting chance. However, Meyer has allowed at least four runs in four straight games while the Cubs scored 10 runs last time out, so Chicago deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Nationals vs. Braves (7:20 PM, EST)

Chris Sale Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-145) at Caesars

To be honest, we would have bet on Sale reaching 10 strikeouts in this game. The lefty has recorded double-digit strikeouts in three straight outings. In fact, Sale has struck out at least nine batters in seven of his last nine starts. While the Nationals aren’t the easiest team to strike out, that doesn’t mean they can avoid being victimized by Sale on Friday. He’s on such a tear lately that it’d be foolish not to back him.

MacKenzie Gore Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (-111) at Caesars

This is an interesting bet because the Braves are hurting, quite literally. Atlanta’s lineup is missing a few pieces, which is sure to hurt them. On the other hand, Gore keeps getting knocked around. He posted a 7.62 ERA in July and hasn’t been much better in August with a 5.52 ERA. More importantly, he’s allowed at least eight hits in four of his last five starts. Even against a watered-down Atlanta lineup, Gore will have to show significant improvement from his last few starts if he wants to keep the Braves to five hits or less.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Brewers vs. Athletics (9:40 PM, EST)

Aaron Civale Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-135) at Caesars

Striking out batters isn’t a huge part of Civale’s game, but when a pitcher is facing the A’s, he has to get the benefit of the doubt. Oakland is toward the top of the majors in terms of strikeouts, giving Civale a chance to hit a relatively low strikeout total. He’s hit this total in three of his seven starts since being traded to Milwaukee, so he’s capable of getting there. He’s also gone six innings in back-to-back starts, so if he can average just one strikeout per inning against Oakland’s free-swinging lineup, Civale should have no problem getting to at least five strikeouts.
