Best MLB Player Props Today 2024 08 21

Monday was a great start to the week for us while Tuesday was a humbling experience. Nevertheless, we carry on Wednesday with a set of picks that we feel good about. We’ve decided to focus exclusively on two games, especially the marquee matchup between the Phillies and Braves, which is bound to attract a lot of attention.

The odds for Wednesday’s picks are from Caesars Sportsbook, which is offering a bonus bet of up to $1,000 to new users if they lose their first wager.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Phillies vs. Braves (7:20 PM, EST)

Max Fried Over 2.5 ER (-109) at Caesars

Even with a solid 3.62 ERA on the season, this is a game where we have to fade Fried. For starters, his ERA over his three starts in August is 7.90, so he’s been bad lately against some subpar teams. Now he has to face a Philadelphia lineup that has several players who have gotten the best of him in their careers. As we’ll see, that includes several right-handed hitters who are poised to do some damage. The last time Fried faced the Phillies, he allowed five runs on 11 hits over six innings, and we expect something similar on Wednesday.

Nick Castellanos Over 0.5 RBI (+146) at Caesars

Castellanos has proven to be the biggest thorn in Fried’s side among current Phillies. He’s 11 for 18 (.611) with a pair of extra-base hits in his career against Fried. Castellanos already mashes lefties and currently has an eight-game hitting streak. He also has five RBI in his last five games. Plus, since he hits in the middle of a Philadelphia lineup that we think will get the best of Fried, there is a strong chance that Castellanos ends up getting an RBI.

Trea Turner Over 1.5 Hits (+184) at Caesars

Despite going hitless on Tuesday, Turner is finally hot enough for Caesars to offer odds on him getting multiple hits. Given how hot he was before Tuesday, we’re inclined to jump on these odds. During a four-game weekend series with the Nationals, Turner went 10 for 17 with three multi-hit games. The guy is also hitting .308 on the season, so multi-hit games aren’t that unusual for him. Of course, the kicker is that he’s 17 for 43 (.395) in his career against Fried. There are other bets involving Turner worth a look as well, but we’re going for the lucrative odds available if he gets multiple hits.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Mariners vs. Dodgers (10:10 PM, EST)

Logan Gilbert Under 5.5 Hits Allowed (-121) at Caesars

It's not always easy to back a pitcher facing the Dodgers, but that’s how good Gilbert has been this year. His 2.96 ERA ranks fifth in the big leagues among starting pitchers, so he’s a tough egg to crack. In August, Gilbert has a 1.86 ERA, showing that he’s continuing to perform at a high level. In his last seven starts, Gilbert has allowed more than five hits just once. Plus, several members of the Los Angeles lineup have never faced him before. The three who have faced him the most - Shohei Ohtani, Enrique Hernandez, and Kevin Kiermaier - are a combined 5 for 35 against him, which bodes well for Gilbert's chances of limiting the Dodgers to five hits or less.

Cal Raleigh Under 0.5 Hits (+106) at Caesars

Despite his power and two-hit performance on Tuesday, Raleigh’s .212 average makes him a good candidate to go hitless. Raleigh has had four hitless games in his last six games, making Tuesday’s game look like an aberration. In his career against LA starter Jack Flaherty, Raleigh is 0 for 3 with three strikeouts. While that’s a small sample, it’s a good indicator that Raleigh doesn’t match up well against Flaherty, making this a good time to fade him.
