Pitching will be the primary focus for Tuesday’s prop bets. We added one hitter prop at the end just to keep things balanced. However, we’re mostly focused on pitchers, particularly those who are going to succeed. Naturally, we’re getting behind Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler and up-and-coming star Paul Skenes, among others, so hopefully that will pay off. The odds we’re using on Tuesday come from Caesars Sportsbook, which is offering a bonus bet of up to $1,000 to new users who lose their first wager.

Coming off an impressive showing at the All-Star Game and his seven hitless innings right before that, we’re going to get behind Skenes. At this point, it’d be foolish not to bet on him. Of course, the standard is already quite high with his over/under set at 1.5 earned runs allowed. But keep in mind he’s allowed one run or less in five of his last six starts. That includes 6.1 scoreless innings last month against the same St. Louis lineup he’ll face on Tuesday. The Cardinals couldn’t figure him out and managed just one run against Mitch Keller and the Pittsburgh bullpen on Monday, so we’re looking for Skenes to keep it going.

Since his hiccup against the Orioles last month, Wheeler has gotten back on track. Plus, going back to the end of May, he’s allowed one run or less in five of his last eight starts. It’s more than realistic to expect him to do so again in his first start after getting extra rest during the all-star break, especially with plus odds. The Twins are far from an offensive juggernaut. Also, most of Minnesota’s hitters will be facing Wheeler for the first time, giving him a huge edge, which should allow them to hold the Twins to one run or less.

We’re not getting the type of lucrative odds we usually like with this bet. But that’s because we were expecting to bet on Taillon allowing 4.5 runs or less. With the over/under at 5.5 hits allowed, we had to take it. While Taillon has mixed results against a few Milwaukee hitters, he’s also allowed four hits or less in three of his last four starts. The extra rest over the all-star break should serve him well. Plus, the Brewers managed just five hits over nine innings on Monday, so they should be limited while facing Taillon over six or seven innings.
On the season, Rea has good numbers, although he’s been a mixed bag lately. He’s gotten rocked for at least five runs in two of his last five starts. Right before the all-star break, he allowed two runs over 5.2 innings to a lackluster Washington lineup. The Cubs have already seen Rea twice this season, and even with modest results, they should be comfortable facing him. The bottom line is Rea has been too inconsistent not to take a chance on him giving up at least three runs if we’re getting plus odds.

As promised, we have one hitter prop today, and it’s the Home Run Derby champ. Hernandez has homered in back-to-back games and is now 7 for 17 with three extra-base hits in four games since winning the Derby. In other words, he’s a hot hitter with tons of power, making him the perfect hitter to target for multiple bases. He’s 2 for 5 in his career against San Francisco’s Jordan Hicks, so there’s no reason to think that Hernandez won’t stay hot on Tuesday.
