While Monday’s MLB schedule is close to a full slate, there aren’t that many familiar names when it comes to starting pitchers. That tends to limit our options because there isn’t always a long track record to use for the basis of our picks. Nevertheless, we came up with a handful of picks that we like, largely from some familiar sources. The odds for our picks on Monday are from Caesars Sportsbook, which is giving new users a no-sweat bet up to $1,000 on their first wager after signing up.

Bibee has been on a tear lately when it comes to strikeouts. He’s recorded 23 strikeouts over 11.1 innings across his last two outings. That made us shocked to see his over/under set at 5.5 strikeouts on Monday. While he’s benefitted from facing a couple of strikeout-prone teams in his last two starts, it’s still not enough to lower his total this much. Bibee has hit at least six strikeouts in six straight games. Why would we think that he’ll stop that streak now?

We don’t typically bet on a player to go hitless in a game, but this is a good time to go with this prop. Olson has gone hitless in five of his last six games and hasn’t hit for a particularly high average for most of the season. His poor history against Lance Lynn also pointed us in the direction of this bet. He’s just 4 for 22 (.182) with 12 strikeouts in his career against Lynn. This is a bad matchup for him while he’s been going through a slump. With the value we’re getting from Caesars with this pick, we think it’s worth a chance.

We’ve probably made a mistake by not targeting Lorenzen more this season. He’s rocking a 3.00 ERA, so he’s been consistent. Before giving up three runs to the red-hot Mets in his last start, Lorenzen went six straight starts giving up two runs or less. Meanwhile, the entire Milwaukee roster is just 2 for 30 (0.67) against Lorenzen. Both of those hits are from Christian Yelich, who is just 2 for 17 against him. Overall, the Brewers don’t have the most dynamic lineup in baseball. A pitcher like Lorenzen should be able to handle them and limit the damage to two runs or less.

Patrick Corbin has actually pitched well in his last two starts. However, we’re not buying that trend to continue against the Padres. The lefty has a poor track record against several of San Diego’s hitters, so we’ll take advantage of that. Profar, for instance, is 3 for 7 with a double against Corbin. He’s also crushing lefties this year to the tune of a .357 average and a 1.020 OPS. Profar also has a seven-game hitting streak and has doubled in three straight games, so we like him to stay hot against Corbin.
In their careers against Corbin, Luis Arraez, Jake Cronenworth, and Profar are a combined 8 for 17 with two walks. Those three are batting in front of Machado, who is 7 for 21 with two extra-base hits in his career against Corbin. In other words, Machado should have some RBI opportunities in this game. It’s also worth noting he has nine hits and five RBI in his last five games, so he’s coming on strong at the same time he has a favorable matchup.
