Gil gave up three runs over 5.2 innings in his last start. But that came against the Dodgers and broke a streak of seven consecutive starts in which he allowed one run or less. Since the beginning of May, Gil has been as good as they get, so he should get right back on track against the Red Sox. Boston has some good hitters, but the Red Sox are still going to be vulnerable against quality pitching. At the moment, Gil is among the best in the American League, so we like his chances of limiting the Sox to two runs or less.

Peralta ranks among the top 10 pitchers in strikeouts this season, so we’re not afraid of a big number like this. For what it’s worth, he’s been limited to seven strikeouts or less in four of his last five starts. However, the Reds are a little above average in terms of how often they strike out, so Peralta is facing a team that’s vulnerable to striking out a lot. Plus, the Cincinnati roster has a total of 20 strikeouts in 49 at-bats against Peralta. If he can strike out 40% of the batters he faces, Peralta should have no problem reaching eight strikeouts in this game.

Ragans and the Royals face a tough matchup this weekend when they visit the Dodgers. However, the young lefty has been almost automatic in reaching six full innings. Ragans has done so in seven of his last eight starts dating back to the end of April. He’s allowed two runs or less in five straight starts, which is a big reason why he’s been allowed to pitch deep into games consistently. While the Dodgers have plenty of star power, the bottom half of their lineup isn’t that strong, which should make it a little easier for Ragans to make it at least six full innings.

Despite a 5-7 record, Castillo has had a good year. But he’s had some ups and downs, looking hittable at times. Castillo has conceded at least six hits in three of his last six starts, so good offensive teams can give him trouble. Also, if you look at his track record against the Texas hitters, it’s bad. Several members of the Rangers have posted good career numbers against Castillo in the past. That’s enough for us to fade him in this matchup. Even if he doesn’t give up a lot of runs, Castillo is likely to give up plenty of hits against this talented Texas lineup.
Lowe is one of those players with good numbers against Castillo, going 3 for 8 with two extra-base hits against him. He also hits in the middle of the order with Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia in front of him. With Corey Seager banged up, Josh Smith started at shortstop and hit second for the Rangers on Thursday. Smith is 3 for 4 against Castillo while Semien and Garcia are a combined 6 for 21. Given the track record of the hitters in front of him, Lowe should have RBI opportunities in this game, which is why we can’t ignore the value of this prop bet.
